Bugs= boring.

Nice pictures, but not much science. Yes, they are there, but what are they doing? Astro photography advancement allows your average back yard guy to take photos that took a miilion dollars to capture a couple of decades ago. Whoo Hoo, here's a close up of a 500 eye bee. Has anyone stopped to wonder what the bee see's?

I know there are science sites I could visit, but I wanted to use the poker playing dogs in a post.

You did really impressive artwork. Congratulation to you that you drew imposant picture of dogs playing poker.

(irony off, let start from your self to create more interesting place here ... because it is about people who insert boring things and you can change it over inserting nonboring things)

(more important note: of course your own things, not stolen things - that is opposite thing how to make that place better - stolen things here mean that this place will be like digital cesspool than better)

I do it for the art, not the science. I also did astrophotography for the same reason. When it comes to my shots of bees, if they don't look like they came out of a fairy tale book, I don't find them interesting enough.

...because focus stacking an inactive, or dead, subject is boring. But I don't focus stack...

These are all single frames, hand held, and I don't allow myself to crop in post.

Yup, you're right. Lots of boring images...

I sort of understand what you are trying to say.  Perhaps, you believe that the Macro and Still Photography Forum should be discussing macro gear and techniques and not be a place for members to show their shots.

I don't think you have a legit argument, even if you were to point out that members were reworking the wheel with the same old macro theme of insects, flower staples and such.   If you like (or even if you do not like) their photos, you can always inquire how they went about setting up to take those shots and what gear they used.   And that's hardly science.  It's technique.

BTW:  Posting a Rockefeller Painting doesn't help your cause.  You're likely to get rebuked for that.

Great site John! I have a lot to learn about lighting, so will read the information you provide and watch the video very carefully. My orientation is more artistic than documentary. Here is one of a bee I took last weekend. I like to bring out their personality.
