GH4 move to new body

Hi.  I have a GH4 that I am planning to sell but this not the purpose of this post.  I have a 100-300 Lumix Lens (H-FS100300) and a a 12-35 (HS12035) Lumix lens.  I am a novice/enthusiast who like to take stills instead of video and I believe the GH4 is not the best body for me.  I am considering using my lenses on a new body better suited for my amateur needs for stills.  I am interested in what you  might recommend.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Juan,

I agonized over exactly your quandry.  In May, I went to Iceland with my granddaughter.  This was one of the main things on my bucket list and I wanted the best camera I could comfortably carry.  I was going to switch to Fujifilm and buy the XE-3.  I went to NYC to B&H to buy the Fuji.  I have been using m43 cameras since 2010 and have a collection of lenses.  I decided to try the G9 even though it is physically a larger camera than I wanted.  Once I looked  through the magnificent EVF and looked over the camera, I knew that it would be right for me.  It is the best camera I have ever owned, and I have been buying cameras since 1957.  It is incredibly well designed, every button is in the right place.  I have used it for landscape, street, and sports photography and it always exceeds my expectations.  I shoot in Raw + Jpeg and I must say these are the best Jpegs that Panasonic has ever made.  I am so glad that I did not purchase the Fujifilm, even though I know it is a very good camera.  I saved having to buy a new system of lenses.

Good luck, whatever you buy.

Hal

Your GH4 was Panasonic flagship camera until GH5 and G9 replaced it.

In good hands, it can deliver pro level still images, but if you are new to photography, there is a learning curve to get the best of it.

A newer body wont improve your skills.

Dont sell it, learn how to master it and enjoy.

Re: GH4 move to new body

Thank you Tatouzou.   My impression that a GH4 was not intended to be a dedicated stills camera and thought that one my do a better job.   I purchased my GH4 particularly for an African trip to Botswana.  I thought it did quite well in my hands but even so so thought it could have done better.  Even so I did get some stunning shots.  My only thought regarding another body is that is could make is easier for me.  I do understand your point though.  Thanks!

Re: GH4 move to new body

Thanks Dr. Hal.  It appears the G9 may be the better stills camera I am looking for.  I will study it further.   For a  compact solution I already have the Sony  RX100 IV Thanks!
