How to change and fix exposure value with auto ISO in Panasonic Lumix G7?

Hello,

I recently switched from Canon to Panasonic Lumix G7 for video.

I had video settings in Canon that worked quite well for me, I am trying to achieve that in G7.

So, basically, I want to use Manual video mode with fixed aperture, shutter (1/50) and exposure, while ISO can be auto and change accordingly to exposure.

The problem is that in manual mode, I can set the aperture and shutter to my desired value. I can change ISO, but I cannot set exposure and lock/fix its value. I want it to be auto and change accodingly to my preset exposure value (+1).

Let me know if that is possible?

Not own G7, that needs its owner to confirm.

However IIRC, like all other older models of Panny, M is M, including ISO. Until GX85 and likely G85, it included Auto ISO to M but Exposure Compensation is not allowed. For your type of shooting, the latest G9 or G95 which allows Auto ISO to M + EC might be your best solution.

However, you might also use A or S mode, Auto ISO and EC on G7 to get it around. Mostly EC will adjust ISO before it hit the ceiling value as set.

You can't do it with the G7.  You can with the G9.  I'm not sure you can do it with the GH5, or any other ILC model.

With Olympus, you can do it with the E-M1 mark II or E-M1x.

This is one of those long standing issues where neither Panasonic nor Olympus showed any understanding of the needs of photographers.  Along with minimum shutter speed settings.  They were slow to add Auto ISO to M mode as well. And while they are finally getting it, they aren't adding those capabilities back to older models.

I wish they would just admit they were wrong and correct it with older models.

You will likely get a lot of un-helpful replies confusing the concept of manual control with M mode and the need to control whatever settings are automated.  Lots of photographers still don't understand.  Ignore them.

Auto ISO (with or without exposure compensation) is not available in M mode while shooting video on the G7 unfortunately.

The functionality was added in later models.

If you want auto exposure for video on the G7, your best bet would be S mode. It's far from ideal, but then again auto exposure for video is far from ideal in general, so...

Ah! Thank you everybody for the replies.

I love this camera, but this is such a bummer.

So far, as you guys suggested, I am using A mode to make it work for me! Not ideal, but let see how it goes when I film for longer durations.

Thank you everybody

Best regards
