X-T100 Touchscreen Issues - AF/MF/Focus Peaking

I have the X-T100, and the 15-45 is on it most of the time. Great little combo...

I also regularly use the Rokinon 12mm which is a manual focus lens.

I have set the touch screen to off using the Off option on the upper right of the screen itself. (NOT in the menu under the 'wrench' 2 > Touch Screen Setting which completely disables the screen.) I leave it off so I don't keep moving the focus point or bumping it so that is shifts to "Shot" or "Area" or "AF")

When I use the Rokinon, I get to manual focus (MF) using the screen and touching the icon on the lower right which toggles MF > AF-S > AF-C. Using MF, I get focus peaking. Works great.

BUT... I found that in MF, touching the screen (often accidentally with my nose) changes the focus point. So, when I switch back to the 15-45 and to AF, I need to make sure I have the focus point back in the center where I want it.

To avoid this problem, I tried disabling the screen altogether (using 'wrench 2' in menu)... BUT, I can't find any way to quickly change to MF without working through the menu. ('camera' 1 > AF/MF setting > Focus Mode > choose Manual). That's a pain...

If I use a manual lens but leave the camera in AF, then I can't have focus peaking which is not good.

SO: Is there:

  1. A way to disable the touch screen from moving the focus point when shooting in MF?
    OR
  2. A quick way to get to MF when the touch screen is completely disabled?

Thanks for any advice.

Re: X-T100 Touchscreen Issues - AF/MF/Focus Peaking

I've still been trying to find an acceptable workaround... This is the best I've got for now.

I totally disabled the touchscreen using wrench 2 in the menu system.

I set the Fn to Focus Mode so I can use that to switch between AF and MF.

The main thing I miss the touchscreen for is when viewing pics I've taken (pinch zoom, moving around pic), but that can be accomplished with rear wheel and buttons.

I really like the X-T100, but greater attention needs to be paid to ergonomics when I get the best functionality by disabling the touchscreen and locking off the selector buttons around the MENU button.

Can you assign focus mode to the My Menu? Aside from that or assiging it to a Fn button there really isn't a quick way. I had to look at a photo of the camera to see if it had the focus toggle on other Fujis.

Yes, but then you have to unlock the selector buttons which I usually have locked because they are so easy to bump.

It's really a handicap to have just one configurable function button (the Fn button).

Sure you can have more but they are all in the touch screen.

I've found the touch screen to be more a hindrance than a help so I have disabled it entirely.  Next version of X-T100 should be like a X-T30 with a Bayer sensor, in my opinion.

Is it different from X-A5 behaviour?

Not sure what the problem is, the focus point does not move on touch in MF mode as long as I select "Off" in the top right corner. That's on my X-A5, which should have a similar behaviour to X-T100.

Is it different on X-T100? May be there is a bug on X-T100 when you use the EVF, but it sounds wierd.

Are you on the latest FW?
