The A9 body only has also dropped in price to the previously announced sales price of $3500.  Does this also mean an A9 II is in the cards?

Definitely in the cards, but I doubt it gets announced before the A7R IV is released in September.

My coffee mug reading tells me that it is almost dry, so coming closer to needing a refill, which should be interpreted as it is not far away now.

And the pattern is rather clear as well, you can see that it is almost as much on both sides, but still not fully, so it soon will have balance like in the symbol for the Libra star sign.

That would mean that the A9II will be liberated and arriving in September. Which also happens to coincide with what the rumor sites believe.

I suspect Sony will want to have a new a9 in shooters hands well before the Tokyo Olympics.

Coffee? I always heard tea leaves were more accurate.

It might be so. I wouldn't know. Tea lacks the most basic ingredient: Caffeine - so I would be asleep long before I got the results out.

a9 II rumors

The A9 II rumors started months ago.  There's a sensor patent and filing that some are speculating are for the new A9.  If so then it MIGHT be 5x more light sensitive per pixel and 36mp total and have a global electronic shutter.

Most rumor sites say it'll be announced this fall.

I'd also be hoping for a beefing up of the weathersealing.

I think of it this way.....Nikon and Canon have kicked a beehive by finally offering serious mirrorless cameras.  A killer sensor like this and not offered to it's competitors would bring Sony to the top of the sports camera world, just in time for the Olympics.  A sensor with this level of light sensitivity would also make their new zoom long telephoto make much more sense.
All speculation, of course, but yes, the rumors abound!

Try some Zest Tea. 150mg of caffeine. Blue Lady is the best flavor.

Some really-connected folks use tea leaves, but this is my first encounter with the empty coffee cup method.

Many kinds of tea also contain caffeine.

Not sure where that number came from but 5x more sensitive with a Bayer sensor should be close to physically impossible.

indeed

likely impossible - it was a raw photon count measurement and 5x as much according to the report.  Quantum tripling perhaps (I made that up).
