Great opportunities (photo's) But need Help !
3

Hi all...bought a used SX60 recently...just had chance to try it out yesterday.

I have Mixed results.

Every time I tried taking shots in Program mode, AF was missing every shot

Once I tried Auto mode, AF became better. Most times was accurate.

Also tried different settings for IS, as it seemed the image was very shaky.

Continuous seemed to work best, my first time out with this camera.

I've used superzooms before, including the classic SX50.

Should I reset the camera? (How?)

Is camera faulty?

Bought used, so one never knows.

Used it for 2 hours, as great opportunities abounded at local park yesterday.

Seemed my SX50 had better IS. I thought the AF wasn't great on the SX50...but what is happening with the SX60??

Even tried a few other modes, like Sports mode...AF was so far off

What can I do (settings) before sending back, or contacting person who sold it to me??

Cosmetically, it's in mint condition.

Thanks for any help!

I would suggest to use a faster shutter speed.

Nice photos btw.

..To tell the SX60 camera to use higher shutter speeds..

..use this below setting in the menu..

Auto ISO => Rate of Change => "Fast"

..and use the Image Stabilizing "Continuous" setting..

..I also turn "off" the "Servo" & "Continuous AF" settings..

..the image stabilization of the SX60 should be similar to the SX50..

..my SX60 camera's image stabilization works well..

..if your copy's image stabilization is very jumpy, it maybe defective..

..thanks for sharing & happy shooting..

..Cheers, John..

I would have used faster shutter speeds...but already at ISO 800 for many shots. Any higher and I think noise and NR smearing will take its toll on I.Q.

Thanks

Thanks. Seen that , but wasn't sure.

Some shots were low ISO, many more were at ISO 50 to ISO 800.

Would you go higher than that?

..and use the Image Stabilizing "Continuous" setting..

Check.

..I also turn "off" the "Servo" & "Continuous AF" settings..

Thanks. Was fooling around with them..forgot what i last used.

..the image stabilization of the SX60 should be similar to the SX50..

I would of thought so, good to hear it is.

..my SX60 camera's image stabilization works well..

Ok...thanks.

Could be. Seller will take back if it turns out it's faulty camera.

Could also be the photographer

Thanks John. Was hoping you would chime in.

I will try it again now...and if problems..will reset camera.

Then turn off Servo and Continuous AF...and set IS to continuous.

Will also take with me the FZ80 for comparison...see if it's me or camera.

Yesterday had the D7500 with me...so not a fair comparison

Peace

Thanks John!

I'm getting more acquainted with the SX60..and images (in not so good lighting conditions) are coming out a bit better. Also did a reset ...set some parameters (servo AF to off, IS set to continuous, few more) and will hopefully get better using/shooting with the SX60.

Thank you John , for the time you spent posting images/thoughts with your SX60.

It was one of the reasons I now own the SX60.
