Our Dog named Daan - it's been a long time

It's been a long since I was active here.

Todays picture makes me happy. Bought a Cactus flash and tranceiver and testing it/finding out how to work I got this one.

Very cute pup. Well done for getting equipment that can take you further with your portraits of your fine dog,

Can I suggest a couple of things. First give the dog a good brush before the shoot. Second, get yourself a good pp program so you can spot heal areas where dust/dirt/dandruff etc can spoil a portrait. Finally, learn some cloning/painting techniques for the eyes, so that unwanted reflections can be removed and catchlights painted in.

With a beautiful dog like Daan you are almost there but the little details make all the difference.

Good luck.

Good definition considering he's all black.

Are you serious Mr PS fix all man. It is a verity photo. Are you the one that puts big lips and plastic faces on female portraits or is that another program?

Yes I am serious. The OP has a beautiful dog and the equipment to take some seriously good portraits of it. Just trying to be helpful.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for taking your time, look well and suggesting me a couple of improvements.

Here's the result. New advise is very welcome!

Hi Plakanina,

Good to see all's sorted out! I do spotting but do not like it. So next time I'll be brushing our dog. He loves it! And yes I like verity photo's above plastic as well as you. But this picture surely was dusty. Dust on black is quite visible....

Thank you Dean,

The definition is one thing getting good focus on a black subject another!

Thank you Dan,

No cropping needed, love the DA*50-135.

But soon we'll jump ship to full frame though....
