Sony A7000/A6700 finally coming ? July 17 is the "Sony Big Day for Camera and Lenses"

So the guy at SAR/MR are pretty confident right now with multiple sources confirmed that July 17 is the "Sony Big Day for Camera and Lenses"

Sony on July 17:
New E-mount camera (A6500 successor) new 35mm f/1.8 FE and a new APS-C lens

https://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/next-announcements-canon-on-july-9-sigma-on-july-11-and-sony-on-july-17/

will we finally see the mythical A7000/A6700 aka a6500 sucessor that compete/exceed the Fuji XT3? or maybe we will get the long-rumored aps-c 16-50mm F2.8 lens?

I hope the price is not more than $1200 - $1400

July is going to be awesome month for me now that Sigma is coming with multiple native FF E-mount lens too with one pancake design.

side note; if the a7000/a6700 gets a7iii - like body, probably there is no flip screen like a6400 which is going to dissapoint a lot of people too

Shall I wait another few days to see what Sony is offering?

About to order a A6400 as a backup to my A9 for more reach and portability

Love its AF mechanism akin to the A9 for birding

New camera will no doubt be better but will be priced higher

Announcement of APSC body or affordable FF should lower A6400 price?

Patience is a virtue I'm telling myself

Guess it depends on how quickly you need it - even if announced, it will probably be some time before it is available.

That would be my guess, though maybe not immediately.

1) Wait unless you absolutely must buy the a6400 right now.

2) I doubt the price of the a6400 will change with this announcement.  I predict the new APSC will have all the bells and whistles, but at a completely different price point. I'd say very similar to the A7iii price point to compete with the XT-3.

I'm probably all alone on this but I'm hoping one day for a FF sensor in an A6000 form factor body.

I like that idea as well but the huge size of most full frame lenses would make the small body seem somewhat pointless

It's perfectly possible to design reasonably sized FF prime lenses, if you don't insist on extreme apertures. For instance, a 35mm f/2.8 can be quite small (by modern standards).

Oh well, I already have four FE lenses I use with my A6300 / A6500 and they are fine.

  • FE 28mm f/2.0
  • FE 85mm f/1.8
  • FE 90mm f/2.8
  • FE 70-300mm G

There are others that I would invest in if I had an A6xxx form factor w/FF sensor. Actually there are a couple other FE lenses I plan to acquire anyway (seriously considering the Sony 200-600mm + 1.4 Extender).

I also already have A99 FF with big lenses (16-35mm f/2.8 ZA and 24-70mm f/2.8 ZA and several others) which I rarely use (I enjoy the small form factor of A6xxx and E / FE lenses). As I age I have more difficulty carrying the heavy weights I am now sold on the Sony E / FE system. For walkaround I use my A6xxx with a light weight lens but have the capability of mounting a larger lens when needed (that's a nice capability IMHO).

If you can't wait 10 days you have only yourself to blame for any buyer's remorse.

if there is no a6700/a7000 or any other aps-c camera launches on 17 July, then sony aps-c shooters need to wait for a long time for the next camera/aps-c lens announcement.

some interesting rumors that I learned after spending some time in FB and Telegram group, that Sony will announce 1 new camera body for every 2 month in the remaining of 2019

a7000/a6700 - July

a9ii - september

a7siii - november
ahh can't wait...10 days more

Only announcement I want to hear are for new APS-C lenses.

I'd like to see a 35mm equivalent compact prime that is on par, if not better, than Canon's EF-M 22mm. The Zony 24mm is a ripoff and way too big for what it could be. I don't think this will happen because they're making too much money with the current 24mm.

I'd like to see updated version for the 16mm and 20mm primes, which were made for NEX-era resolution MP but not for today's cameras. I doubt this will happen either because there's no incentive for them to do so.

I'd like to see a 17-50mm f2.8, but because they'd have to develop one from the ground up to make it as small as possible, I doubt we're going to ever see it because it'll take resources away from FE development.

I guess I would be interested in a new full frame body that is smaller than the A7I/II/III with specs to match the A6400 in terms of FPS, 4k capability, unlimited 4k shooting and a flip screen, but I doubt that will happen either because that would eat into the A7 series/A6400 sales.

People want the top of the line lenses with the widest possible aperture but then complain about weight and size and don't want to pay the price. And somehow it is a sin for a manufacturer to make a profit. The price of the Sony Zeiss 24/1.8 is indeed substantial,  it's size is compact and the outcome is superb. A typical case of you get what you pay for in my own opinion after finally getting a used one in perfect condition.

I think a FF in the A6000 body is a terrible idea...

If you want the new battery, and Ibis, then you would save maybe 50g in weight. You end up with a camera whose ergonomics are poor for shooting in manual mode. You have a body that will be very imbalanced with all of the full frame zooms and large aperture primes. Some of the parts from the other models can be reused. Would you consider purchasing an A7000 full frame camera in the A6400 body for 20-30% more than the cost of an A7iii? I don't think it is even worth the market research.

Strawmen. Who's complaining about that here? I have the Sigma 16 and Sigma 30 f1.4, the fastest native AF glass for Sony APSC and it is both affordable and light. The Sigma 16mm less so, but still affordable.

And somehow it is a sin for a manufacturer to make a profit.

I'm very happy with Sigma prices. I was talking about ripoffs, like the Zony 24.

The price of the Sony Zeiss 24/1.8 is indeed substantial, it's size is compact and the outcome is superb.

Compact? Compared to what? Certainly not the EF-M 22mm, which is way lighter, smaller, reasonably priced yet doesn't sacrifice any quality. The Zony is big, expensive, and isn't that fast compared to the Sigma primes. At that price and size, Sony should've included OSS. They did it with the 35 and 50, so there's no because for them not to include it here.

A typical case of you get what you pay for in my own opinion after finally getting a used one in perfect condition.

Nice passive aggressive post here by the way, clearly directed towards me but no direct reply.

The Zony 24 is the perfect example of why Sony's native lens offering is terrible, buy the apologists will defend it to death.

and the wished for 17-50/2.8 is of course at a Sigma price, light and compact .
