All going a bit vague again with the G5X II
1

The sites seem sure a G7X III is on the way but the best Canon Rumors can say it is likely to be announced with the G5X whilst Canon Watch and Mirrorless Rumors now show no sign of a G5X on their list of cameras coming according to Nokishita.

Edit: it is interesting the preview posted 6 months ago in Photographyblog was on the basis of a Nokishita leak so I expect Nokishita must be hoping that Canon actually produce something this time. It does look a bit like it is just the G7X in the Powershot 1" package. It is difficult to see how the G9X with its relatively narrow 28mm lens is going to compete with the ultrawide to telephoto 3 lens new generation of phones which will probably be available in lower models ultimately.

You do sometimes wish these manufacturers would just say once and for all if they are going to produce these new cameras or not. Waiting for a Canon compact camera to appear is getting a bit like waiting for Brexit which in particular, with its endless prevaricating babble from a dithering moribund intelligentsia completely unable to carry out any specific practical task given to them, is driving us completely out of our minds in this country. Hence this post!

It is if they are to be or not to be with a G5X Mk II that is the complete mystery at the moment. Of course with a G3X II we probably should by now have abandoned all hope.

My suggestion is to ignore any supposed "spy photos" of a rumored new camera and also ignore any rumors site except Nokishita. And even then take it with a grain of salt because doesn't mean anything until product is actually announced by Canon. But Nokishita has an excellent track record. They are the only ones I would pay any attention to personally. Remember much of this stuff is to create attention. It drives traffic to sites. Also there are people who get off by fooling people by creating fake photos, stories, or claiming they have "an inside source".

They can't continue to sell the same old G models forever , so one of these months they will have to upgrade something.

I had the same thought from the recently posted site using a screenshot from Nokashita. The site looks quite bad and they're the only ones to have shown that screenshot. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

I had high hopes for this summer...something. uh, I guess now October for Christmas is the next major stop. I'm unlikely to buy, as G7X1 is enough for me and just took a huge for me $6k loss. But, I'm still intrigued and excited at the prospects of the new releases!

Possibly the rumour sites have forgotten about this or he has changed tack on the new cameras. We shall see. The G5X is by far the most interesting prospect.

A bit like chasing Will-o'-the-wisp.

Okay. Thanks for this. This is the one I'm remembering from the aforementioned site.

Good to see this as I was wondering if I had imagined everything.  I hope it has some truth in it.

New Nokishita Rumor

Directly from the Nokishita website, via google translate.

I suppose a pop-up EVF is a way to differentiate it from the G1 X III and M50, by increasing its compactness.

Re: New Nokishita Rumor

Could it be: G5x Mk ii dimensions 111 x 61 x 46 mm with 24-120 + pop up (Mk i: 112 x 76 x 44 mm)? G7x Mk ii is 106 x 61 x 42 mm.

I would prefer a fixed EVF myself but it will be interesting to see what form this takes if true. A real surprise from Canon.

Stacked sensor is interesting and as it is 3 years old it is feasible in Sony's 2 year lag in releasing sensor technology. I wonder if they have done a quick upgrade of the sensor from what was expected to come out at the end of last year.

If that's true, then I'm really glad to see that Canon does not abandon the high end compact market to Sony.

Provided this rumored Canon has a decent battery life, it should be a very interesting camera. The fast lens would be really convenient for a traveller photographer, with a very useful range.

Fingers crossed....

OK, now images too. Some flaws, but this have to be it after several years with Stylus1.

Mixed feelings about pop-up but more pocketable. Hold on, if it is like Sony pop-up me no like then. Biggest sad is bye bye to vari-angle LCD. Welcome to (sharp...) 24-120mm and DIGIC 8!

Re: New Nokishita Rumor

It is 0.39" 2.36m-Dot crap Pop-Up EVF - just like Sony. And damn again, 3.0" 1.04m-Dot Tilting LCD sounds old.

Re: New Nokishita Rumor

The 5x optical f1.8-2.8 is interesting; makes the G5X2 much more interesting in my eyes than it otherwise would be (the hotshoe and evf of zero interest to me). Will add significantly stronger background blur as compared to the 4.2x.

Surprising and a shame it appears they won't be cramming into the G7X3 as well.

A big factor in marketing 2 products is to differentiate them as much as possible. A cheaper simple product and an expensive all the bells and whistles one.

Re: New Nokishita Rumor

Sure. Makes sense. Though they didn't do it with previous iterations. I guess G5X didn't sell nearly as well as G7X.

It's probably a bid to make the G5X2 significantly more appealing, as the longer reach would be interesting to most anyone, but EVF, audio jack, and hotshoe really only of pro or serious enthusiast interest.
