Canon 24-70 2.8 ii + Dome port

I am interested in putting together an entry level underwater setup. While I'll occasionally use this for some snorkeling on vacations, my primary use for this will be split level dome shots for weddings and engagements (I live on an island, so there's ample opportunity for this). Because of my uses for it, I was thinking the Outex system would be sufficient to hold a Canon 6D and 24-70 2.8 ii. I'd like to use the 120mm dome with that setup for the split level shots. However, as I've read more about dome ports and the virtual image, I'm not sure if I'll need a diopter? An extension? Are there any other lenses that would be better suited for this type of thing I should consider?

Thanks!

O/Us require very wide lenses, usually fisheyes, but the 16-35 would work.  I don't think the 24-70 will do, and it's not generally listed as a suitable UW lens due to the longer focal length and heft.

On the dome side, 180mm may be the small end.  At 120, very difficult to succeed.  That size is usually meant for fisheyes, with 6" (150mm) and up used for rectalinear lenses.  Diopter may be called for.    Contact the big camera shops for advise on this camera/lens combo.

Does the system you are looking at include a zoom ring for that lens?   If so, they should have port and extension advice to go with it.

As mentioned, a 120mm dome port sounds suspiciously small.

It does not. That particular company has been pretty unhelpful when I've reached out, so I'm looking at some larger dome port options from other companies now.

Again, is there a zoom ring for that lens for your housing?

There is not a zoom ring for that housing.

Is your plan to pre-zoom the lens before you get in the water and shoot only at one focal length for the dive?

Yeah, I was planning on keeping it at the same focal length the entire time I'm in the water.

Seems like it may be easier to get a prime setup inside.
