Re: Samsung against Yashica

Nice! I've been trying to get myself a development kit for 35mm p/b films. I got myself a Praktica TL1000 for almost nothing, working fine tho (even the metering system!)
The pro of a film camera is that you should always get better quality shots with them, sid by side they'll get more contrast than digital negatives, the cons is that they are final, no changes can be made to get them better after shot.

Thats the thing about cameras with RAW capabilities, be able to recover blacks, shadows, whites and highlights is something awesome!

Rarelly you can match a digital X film shots, its needed a whole post processing in the digital file to make it look a lot better.

Well yes, not a film per say, but with a digital film, it does have the limitations of a film camera, right? Well, that what I've seen in reviews, may be wrong as I do not own one.

Kinda feels like scanning pictures and trying to edit them.

I remember that my father bought one camera with digital film somewhere in the late 90s or early 00s, but I do not remember what model it was, for some reason I think it was a kodak... I really don't know, I was 7 or 8... anyway, I don't think he liked it, as he ran back to his zenit, luckily, somehow, the helios 44m-6 survived very well, sadly I do not have a clue about the camera body itself, it simply disappeared...

I think the Yashica would be a good candidate for the Toy Camera thread.

Just spotted this comment as I was looking at the comparison photos.

I think that the "digital film: camera you were thinking of was an APS type .

APS cameras recorded some data called Information Exchange. The amount of info increase in the better models including print N, type of film, aperture and shutter speed use, time and date. But there was no digital input at all in the image. It was just a film base with an extra magnetic layer for the data.

This one had an LCD that played back the last image taken so that you could record on the magnetic part of the film film if you wanted that printed or not but the digital image was not stored, the memory only held one photo and you could not print that .

The Kodak Advantix Preview was a flawed concept, but interesting nonetheless:

Re: Samsung against Yashica

The APS system was a bit of a desperate measure to prolong the life of film and have something new to sell as digital cameras were developed.

But , for one, the shop I worked for did well out of it,  particularly with D&P because our Fuji lab did a better job than the other brands could do , at least for the first year or so.

Because of it we also had a "digital Lab" to print all other films and our prints look better than most other work done by non pro labs.

Anyway, I was just pointing out where the idea of " Kodak digital film" ,that hunkreborn mentioned,  probably came from.

Excellent, thanks for the link.

It reminds me that in 1996 I bought my first camera APS and my first digital camera.
And may the best system win

Fujifilm Fotonex 4000 SL (1996)

Kodak DC20 (1996)

I have seen several of the Preview models on the used markets for as little as $12US. I wonder how well they were built. Maybe I should get one for display. I currently have both Nikon SLR, both Canon SLR and a Minolta SLR models. That's probably more than necessary but they have been incredibly cheap.

Re: Samsung against Yashica

That Fuji was made by Olympus , pretty much the same as their Centurion version.

A lot of APS cameras had the same model sold under different well known brands.

The Kodak DEC 20 was made by Chinon

Chinon ES-1000

Indeed, and Kodak acquired Chinon in 1997 …

Ah! this little Chinon ES-1000, I have been looking for this since 1998 !!
I have never seen her once on ebay.com
