Too heavy why?   Someone thinks all lenses should be the weight of 50f1.8?   Someone thinks the lens mount will warp from a 'heavy lens'?

DSLR's are about the heaviest cameras used these days.   You should expect the lenses to mostly match.   I don't find the 24-70 heavy at all, but then I shot an 80-200F2.8 with SD-24 flash mounted at the same time for years.

I read in a review of lens. The person was using 810.  I have been told the Tamron would be better for me but just checking as can get a good price on Nikon

I find the combo quite heavy, I changed my 70-200 f/2.8 VRII for an f/4 copy and can now walk around all day with two D750's, 24-70E VR, 70-200 f/4, 20mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.4 and an SB800 flashgun for low light event work.

Whether it's too heavy for you is of course very personal. I have a very light DX set for work in good light.

What is the weight difference between the two lenses?

I find that the only time my camera really feels heavy is if I have it on a strap around my neck.   I quit doing that years ago and changed to hanging a camera off my shoulder.   Two cameras, preferably.   I did have to change the Nikon strap to a decent padded one that doesn't slide off a shoulder.

Thank you. I got the Peak Design strap and it does make a difference. This is basically a hobby so I would only carry one camera😄

I'd say rent a copy for a few days if you're in doubt. The experience of weight is very personal. I was fully used of this kind of lenses (900/1000gr) on my D750 and I was just fine with it. Others might find it heavy and someone used to a 70-200VRII might find it refreshingly light;-)

I have a similar combo, D850 + that lens. I always use 2 bodies during events. I can easily shoot for hours with the D850 and Z6 + 24-70mm VR and 70-200mm 2.8 VR. Of course, I do own a light DX setup like others have mentioned for when I get lazy. But no, by too heavy, there are no balance issues or anything. The 24-70mm f/2.8 VR is a great lens! When I had a D750, my 24-70mm remained fixed on it 95% of the time. 24-70mm is a excellent focal length for many functions.

I did try it and it’s a little front heavy but not noticeably more so than the older 2.8. It’s a big heavy lens on any camera, only buy it if you need it, is my view. Peak design strap is the answer to carrying the thing.

Thank you.  I have the Peak Design strap but I think I have decided on the smaller, lighter Tamron that gets excellent reviews.

I'm only a hobbiest too, but I got in the habit of two bodies back in the 1990's, using ISO 400 film in one and ISO 64 in the other.  Sometimes different ISO's, sometimes slide versus print, sometimes color versus black and white.

At other times I just use the same film (or ISO settings on digital), but like the flexibility of two bodies with complementary lenses, especially primes.

After carrying a gripped N90s with 80-200F2.8 and often an SB-24/26 speedlite, the weight of an ungripped camera with a simple 24-70 zoom doesn't seem heavy in any way to me, except perhaps hanging from my neck.

I am used to big cameras, and slogging weight around as needed until my camera is in the right place with the right lens.

Underwater gear is even worse, since it all encases the camera.  At least underwater it is neutral.  My rig with two strobes, focus light, camera, lens and wide angle dome weighs more than 30 pounds above water.

So you haven’t actually used the camera and lens the OP is asking about. Your point, apart from showing off a nauticam housing, is?
