Canon 100D (SL1) Burst Rate

I picked my wife's Canon 100D, which she uses (allegedly) for dental photography with her macro lens, but I fitted a Canon 18-55mm IS STM to it. While testing it, I noticed that the burst rate is 4 fps for the first second, then slowing to 2fps afterwards. This is irrespective of the settings I tried, including JPEG only, and with or without a fast card. The buffer, especially in JPG mode, should do more than that. Am I missing something here? Any ideas more than welcome.

ANSWER:
Canon EOS Rebel SL1 (EOS 100D)

Have you checked to see if some in camera processing has been set ? If I recall correctly stuff like lens correction, high ISO noise reduction etc can slow things down.

You are absolutely spot-on. It was the Chromatic Aberration processing that did it, the others did not affect it. Once removed, the burst rate was consistently at 4fps for far longer than a second. Thanks a lot!

The Noise Reduction did it too, I had disabled initially anyway, but though I'd test it. Thanks again.

You're welcome. First thing I do with any new camera is to disable  all the stuff I prefer to do myself . I shoot raw though so I can apply any corrections during the conversion process. Glad you've got it sorted now.
