Fuji XP130 - Dissapointing

I recently bought a Fuji XP130 as I planned on doing some SCUBA diving. I generally don't have a use case for under water photography so I 'cheaped' out on this model.

I was very disappointed in the XP130.. it struggled to focus most of the time and the images it produces are worse than those taken with a camera phone. I had expected something a little better.

I would not recommend it

Care to post some samples? While I doubt that XP130 is a technological marvel, one should also keep in mind that water is an extremely challenging environment to shoot in, and much of the conventional wisdom about land photography does not apply when diving.

Yes, I think that has a lot to do with it.. that said, this is touted as an underwater camera so I would have hoped it could cope better with low-light focusing?

The images are OK.. but struggling with focus lock was annoying.

Fast and accurate autofocus in low light requires PDAF. To the best of my knowledge, there are only a handful of compact cameras on the market that implement it, and none of them are in the XP130's price bracket - Sony RX100 V/VA/VI and RX1R II, Canon G1 X III, Ricoh GR III, Fujifilm XF10, and... I think that's it.

The images are OK.. but struggling with focus lock was annoying.

Looks pretty much par the course with iffy visibility and natural light. Getting closer generally helps, but as far as I can see, there is no obvious way to mount a wet wide lens on this camera.

As far as I understood, these rugged cameras like the XP130 do not have the awful fisheye effect of the action cameras correct?

Correct. This camera has a regular field of view rather than the distorted Fish Eye of a Go-Pro type camera.

I have found that if I do some remedial post processing, these small point and shoots sit better on the appreciate side.  I took the liberty of capturing one of your images and only adjusted the color using curves on my smartphone.  I really don't think that Fuji is too bad for what it is.

What do you think?
