How's the 40-150mm/4-5.6 for action

I have the American Cancer Society Philly Bike-a-Thon coming up on June 9 and plan on using my E-M1X and 40-150/2.8 to cover the finish line. I'm thinking of taking the 40-150/4-5.6 as backup. Will the 40-150/4.5.6 respond fast enough on the 1X on bicycle riders crossing the finish line anywhere from 10 to 20 mph, or should I go to my 12-100/4.0 for the backup lens?

Good, excellent even.

Yes it does. It is not really limited by anything. Blazing fast lens. At least targets at faster than 800km/h has not dropped out of the DOF because lens would be slouch to focus.

What is your backup camera?

Then I would skip the slow 40-150 in favor of a wide angle lens on the Nikon for B-shots of the crowd.  Switch to the D500 and 70-300 if there is an issue with the Olympus setup.

Just because I don't switch lenses when shooting an event when I have a second camera to use with alternate FL.

Not interested in the crowd. Goal is to try and get as many of the riders crossing the finish line. There are two other photographers to get shots of the crowd and survivor ceremony-awards.

In that case, you would have both cameras with the telezooms mounted ready to go.  A hiccup on your G9 and you switch to the Nikon.  As riders are crossing the finish line, you  don't have time to fiddle with lenses, even assuming it's a lens problem.

One thing I have done is put a second camera with wide lens on a small tripod at my feet, using a remote shutter cable off a flash trigger receiver, with the flash trigger transmitter mounted on my camera with the tele lens.   Each shot with the tele lens is matched with a shot with the wide lens.
