Canon SX730

Hi Everyone,

I have a canon sx730. I took it out in the rain and I didn't think it got damaged. Since then I took a video in auto mode. Now it looks like there is dust on the sensor. Should I nix it and use my sony? any help is appreciated.

Nick

Uh oh - very sorry to read that.

Long term prognosis for survival is poor, but short and intermediate term may be better. If you think there's a chance it could dry out (meaning, if you turned it off immediately when you realized it got wet, and you kept it off for a couple of weeks so it could dry out in a warm dry place) keep it off for another couple of weeks and try again. If there are still spots inside the camera, it's probably not worth sending it off for repair. Eventually rust is likely to further damage components and/or circuitry.

Thank you for reply.  On a positive note, I did try it again videoing and did some

test shots. Spots didn't come back. I am wondering because I didn't use the video mode

on dial, that may the case (meaning- just hit record button)

Re: Canon SX730

Very glad to read this. If the spots are gone in video mode, they're almost certainly gone in PSAM modes too. But keep an open mind, because in time - could be weeks or months, unlikely to be years - some sort of rust or mold may occur.
