Re: Nikon Z6 and Z7 Service Advisory

Dang.. mine is affected.. but until I read this I wouldn't have even known.

VR appears to work fine for me so far.

Should I bother?

Issue
While Nikon has taken great measures to assure the high quality expected of Nikon products, it has come to our attention that the vibration reduction (VR) feature in some Nikon Z 6 and Z 7 cameras may not function fully. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

I think that the "may not function fully" is the key here..

Not sure where you live but it's an issue with all Z series and Nikon will take care of it.

Just looked the the Nikon UK site and the service advisory is there as well.

Worked just fine for me. Used Firefox.

Worked fine for me too on Safari iOS. My Z6 is unaffected.

Is there a way to get on some emailing list for these service advisories?

I don't think so. But the news spreads so quickly to the photography websites that it's pretty hard to miss. That's one huge advantage of the Web.

Yea just checked my Nikon act and the updates about products you own is on. I got a marketing email this morning about the new FW update, but nothing about a service advisory. Either way I'll check periodically, not the end of the world.

I Find they did it in a sneaky way, but eventually it comes out anyhow.

First batch in Belgium, serial 600xyz affected

Not really...

Mine starts with 600 and is uneffected. OK, bought in Sweden, but I think they are distributed from Japan globally as "Western Europe" not country wise.

What might the defect be?

As affected owners have stated, the problem is not obvious. My IBIS seems to work ok and I've not considered that there was anything wrong with it

It would be interesting to find a site (Dpreview?) that shows an A/B comparison test of an affected body vs one that is not.

Mine is not on the list either - BUT my camera is definitely sharper with VR turned off...so I believe Nikon will be expanding the list of affected serial numbers pretty soon...

You should test it for yourself.

Do you have any relatively long VR lenses? Take some shots of a tree for example, with VR on and off and see which is sharper at 100% zoom. My camera yields some weird motion blur due to strange sh*t happening with the IBIS/VR. It looks like the camera was jolted, when it was not.

My 24-120mm showed this issue...

I would if mine was on the list. Something must be wrong, even if you didn't notice so far, so there is no reason not to get it fixed. They won't issue a service advisory without any reason.
