Checked out Better Beamer and MagMod flash extenders.

Didn't like that they fit to the flash gun. IMO it puts a load on the camera hotshoe.

Anyway they looked like they would be a bit 'floppy'.

Also not readily available in Australia.

So I made this thing:

The fresnel lens is A4 size. Got it from a local office supplies place.

The bar is 1 inch aluminium.

I rotate the lens collar of the Pentax 645 400 mm lens 180 degrees and fit the bar to it.

I can adjust the size of effective flash area by positioning the fresnel lens in one of the several holes drilled in the bar.

This photo is a half crop taken hand held but resting my elbow on a chair, taken at f 32, ISO 400, about 17 ft distance. Flash set to ttl, 180mm. [ In dimly lit room. ] Flash unit is a Neewer NW-562C.

I've been informed that this is how the Better Beamer started.
