Using original Panasonic 20mm f1.7 on Panasonic GX9 - AF-C doesn't work?

I had the original GF1 and Panasonic 20mm f1.7 (used) years ago, and after not using them for some time, I gave them to a family member. In between, I acquired the GX7 (again used), and last year, traded it in for the GX9.

As it turns out, my old GF1 wasn't being used, and was happily given back to me, and so I mounted the old 20 mm f1.7 to my GX9. When I tried to switch to AF-C, the display gave me a message to switch to AF-S. It did this several times, almost as if AF-C couldn't work with the lens.

I can't figure this out. Is the original 20 mm f1.7 incompatible with the continuous focus modes of the newer Panasonic m4/3 cameras? Am I missing something like a setting in a menu?

AFC doesn't work with 20 1.7 for either versions. Very I and II.

Really? Wow... that seems... like an oversight, to put it mildly. AFC works on the old GF1, but of course, that's like multiple generations back. It's a good thing I didn't shell out the money then for the Version 2 of the 20 mm f1.7.

AF-C does not work with the original 20mm.  In fact, the listing on the Panasonic web site for that lens used to have a very specific statement to that effect.

AF-C did not work on my GF1. Based on how much the 20 mm's AF lagged behind during video on the GF1, I am not sure AF-C would have worked acceptably well.
