(Almost) complete list of native EF-M lenses v2
20

(Updated from my last year's thread comments and newer annouces.)

Hi, just because I've done it for myself, I share with you the list of all NATIVE EF-M lenses I found:

8 Canon lenses :
All Canon lenses are budget-friendly, and well build for this range. Outside the 22mm, all are stabilized. They are meant to be light and compact (all are under 300g.). As a direct consequence they are on the slow side.
- 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM compact for 18-35mm équiv. (a bit shorter compared to the 18-55), stabilized, great optical quality. 220g.
- 15-45MM F/3.5-6.3 IS STM smaller than the 18-55, but full plastic build. 130g.
- 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM original kit lens for the M, full metal finish. 210g
- 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Optically, a good step above the 18-55 kit. Sharper and more homogenous 260g
- 18-150mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM kit superzoom, versatile and compact for this focal length. 300g
- 22mm pancake f/2.0 STM tack sharp and very light. Weak points: visible vignette wide open (easily corrected, especially with the 24mp sensor) and no IS. 105g.
- 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM. First EF-M macro lens. 1:1 ratio and x1.2 with "super macro" mode. two led imbedded for additional lighting when you nearly touch your subject. Compact, 130g.
- 32mm F1.4 STM the brightest EF-M from Canon. The seemingly sharpest too. 235g.

1 Tamron lens:
- Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III VC tested by Dustin Abott : the biggest size to keep a balanced camera (with M1), optically good for the category, useful all-in-one. 460g.

11 Samyang/Rokinon lenses:
full manual: focus ring, aperture ring, no electronic contacts = no exifs. Usually, good optical quality/cost ratio.

Designed for APSC mirrorless:
- 8mm f/2.8 UMC II fish-eye very compact 260g.
- 12mm f/2 NCS CS UGA fast and compact, test reports very good optical quality for the cost. Personal test: same sharpness as Canon 11-22mm. 260g.
- 21mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC CS, compact 275g.
- 35mm f/1.2 ED AS UMC CS, 420g.
- 50mm f/1.2 AS UMC CS, 375g.
- 85mm F1.8 ED UMC CS, 344g.
- 300mm f/6.3 ED UMC CS mirror design, very compact for a 300mm, 318g.

EF-M mount but designed for APSC reflex:
- 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS, 580g
- 16mm f/2 ED AS UMC CS, 583g
EF-M mount but designed for FF reflex:
- 20mm f/1.8 ED AS UMC, 497gn
- 135mm f/2 ED UMC 210mm f/2 pour less than 600$...but no AF. 830g.

1 Handevision Ibelux lens:
Manual lens designed for APSC mirrorless.
- 40mm F/0.85 big, heavy, expensive, but a unique look on the pictures.

2 ZY Optics/Mitakon:
Manual lenses designed for APSC mirrorless.
- 35mm f/0.95 Speedmaster MarkII, 460g.
- 20mm f/2 Creator, macro x4-x4,5 230g.

1 LAOWA lens:
Manual lens designed for APSC mirrorless.
- 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D AFAIK, the widest EF-M orthogonal lens.

6 7artisans lenses:
Manual "retro" lenses designed for APSC mirrorless. Compact and fast primes.
- 7.5mm f/2.8, fisheye 275g
- 12mm f/2.8, 295g
- 25mm f/1.8, 143g
- 35mm f/1.2, 150g
- 35mm f/2, 320g
- 55mm f/1.4 272g

3 Sainsonic/Kamlan Lenses:
Manual lens designed for APSC mirrorless.
- 8mm f/3.0 fisheye, 245g.
- 28mm f/1.4 384g.
- 50mm f/1.1 250g.

7 MEIKE lenses:
Found on Amazon for less than 100$
- 6.5mm f/2 Fisheye, 300g.
- 12mm f/2.8, 360g.
- 25mm F/0.95 more expensive (650$), heavier 540g.
- 28mm f/2.8 pancake, 106g.
- 35mm f/1.4, 220g.
- 35mm f/1.7, 180g.
- 50mm f/2.0 190g.

That's it… 40 native lenses. Only 9 of them with autofocus. Do not forget the EF/EF-S lenses that can be useful and compact enough to work well with the M bodies, with full AF capabilities:
- EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM Pancake, 230g w/ canon adapter
- EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM, 365g w/ canon adapter
- EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM, 295g w/ canon adapter
- EF 40mm f/2.8 STM pancake, 235g w/ canon adapter
- EF 50mm f/1.8 STM, 265g w/ canon adapter
- EF 50mm f/2.5 macro, 385g w/ canon adapter
- EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM, 440g w/ canon adapter
- EF 85mm f/1.8 USM 530g w/ canon adapter
- EF 100mm f/2.0 USM 565g w/ canon adapter

PS : I didn't list the equivalent ciné lenses (rokinon and meike)

Fantastic !

I am slowly learning of M range; which ones are native (do not require any adapters), and which one require EF/EF-S adapter ?

Regards,

All the 40 lenses are EF-M native!

The caveat here is the autofocus : only the Canon and Tamron lenses have autofocus and electronic contacts to send EXIF data to the body. All the others are full manual lenses.

Just the very last paragraph lists the EF or EF-S lenses compact enough to fit well with the M line bodies, with adapter.

What's compact enough?

to fit well with the M line bodies, with adapter.

Personally i like the EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM, and i like it better than the ef-s 24mm f/2.8 stm. I also like the EF 35mm f/2.0 IS USM, and even the ef-s 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 ergonomically isn't that bad on my M50. The latter can be picked up second hand for very reasonable prices, while it replaces the 15-45 and a good portion of the 18-150mm, without the need of swapping lenses. It isn't compact, but it isn't annoying to hold at the same time.

The sigma 18-35mm, that is ergonomically definitely an annoying lens.  But unlike Sigma, Canon is better in finding the balance between performance and a still nice handling.

If your facts are different we could save the peace just by calling it copy to copy variation.

You're right, everyone can have différent vision of "fit well" or "compact enough".

I went from my expérience with the EOS M1 (with franiec grip) + EF 50 f/1.4 + Canon adaptor (quite heavy for what it is). For me, it's the upper limit in size and weight for good balance with common focal lengh.

But i'm coming from compact cameras and I'm not used to big DSLR with L glass.

So yes, with an M50 (bigger body and beefier grip) and different backstory, bigger lenses can be seen as "balanced".

I see.

You added the weight in grams of the lens plus adapter, that is a good thing. Someone could estimate how a combination would feel by comparing to a combination already owned.

Just FYI there is a Meike 25mm f1.8, and also a 7artisans 50mm f1.8.

"All Canon lenses are budget-friendly"

That rather depends on one's definition of budget-friendly. I've had cheaper holidays than some of these lenses.

Thanks for putting the list together though. Most helpful.

Another addition to this list needs to be this lens, which I have and am enjoying:

Venus Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO

And for some reason, this lens also does not show up in the Gear List database for this web  site either.  Not sure how that is managed.

This is a great place to get started for someone like me who’s new to Canon EF-M.

Are there any lenses that need to be added to this list?
