This month with your Nikon 1 - May 2019

Welcome to a new year and another monthly thread! Feel free to share your work either here or through individual threads on the forum, whatever you are more comfortable with.

The rules are simple:

  • Add your contribution by responding to this first message in this topic.
  • Change the subject of your message, then embed your image into the reply with whatever you’d like to say about it.
  • If you want criticism/critique (C&C) or technique feedback, say so. It’s generally assumed that you want general feedback, but direct requests make it clearer.

The title of the thread shouldn't discourage you from posting older pictures. Feel free to post anything that you found again in your archives or that you are currently working on.

This image was pre-focussed on the bird's flight path. Every now and then the birds developped a panic and flew off, only to come back a little while later. Luckily the rhino walked into the frame after a few flight cycles:

Gambel's Quail chicks
4

Each year we wait to see how many quail families we'll get in our yard, how many chicks there will be in each, and when the first group will show. We had our first family a few days ago, and this second larger family just Tuesday. They are difficult subjects, usually staying out of range or under cover, and never still. A photo is the only way we have of getting an accurate count of the chicks as they race around in every direction - there are 21 chicks in this shot.

This was taken about an hour ago near our front door, through the window glass, with the V2 and 10-100.

Spring time.  Taken with either J5+10-100mm or V1+Ft-1+70-300mm AF-P VR.  Enjoy!

Very nice picture, Holger, a bit noisy for my taste when viewed at full size. But it doesn't matter!

Nice catch. You mean all these chicks are coming from the same mother? How is it possible?

Very nice pictures. I'm generally not a big fan of this kind of pictures, but yours have something special. Congrats, and thanks for sharing. BTW, this 70-300 AFP is a very sharp lens! (I have one too).

Blooming in the Back Yard
2

Spring continues its march toward the hot days of summer.   Walking the yard, I find this small assortment of blooms.

Tiny wild flowers in the lower yard.

Ever present wild mustard.

Ice plant ground cover blooming on the slope.

Re: This month with your Nikon 1 - May 2019

Thanks, André!  The colors, bright light, and shallow field of view give the images somewhat a dreamlike impression.  Thanks to the butterflies exhibit at a local park, allowing me a captive setting to maximize the potential of the N1 combos.

many thanks, the fighter shot doesn't have the 1.4x teleconverter on, being a Kenko one it's just the way the EXIF reports it, good fun shooting at 1134mm AOV lol

Sigma 135/1.8

This lens is a dream come true, faster and longer than the 30-110, and so much sharper!

The Common gull has the darkest eyes I know of, but occasionally you can see its iris! Slight crop.

Had a jackdaw as a kid, but this one, probably a male, is totally undomesticated. Slight crop.

Slowly, slowly, I am improving my Post-Processing skills, and it helps to have a lens with such lovely bokeh.

My best lenses are all Sigma, plus the Nikon 70-200/4.0G, which belongs in that group as well, and the 70-300 CX (as long as it continues to work).
