Chromatic Aberration in RAW files vs SOOC JPEGs - Lumix G9

Hi reviewers,

Quick question about this. I was comparing SOOC JPEG v RW2 (Lumix RAW) in Lightroom Classic CC and noticed that the jpeg processed in camera handles CA better than LR.

Camera is Lumix G9 shooting RAW +JPEG with a 100-300mm v2 lens, at 300mm, 1000s at f5.6 (wide open) ISO250.

Can someone check this short video I made and comment?

Have you set LR to cancel CA?  The amount shown should be easy to deal with.

I get, similar performance with JPG and raw.  I set the camera up for straight out the camera MP4 4K and photos.  Thus, the 4K video quality and JPGs do look a lot better than the raw files.
The JPG processing does a good job for NR, CA, lens correction like vignetting and distortion.  Thus, for most stuff I shoot JPG and MP4 4K.  The only time I use raw is for bracket exposures, and any landscapes I plan huge changes to exposure and color.

With 100-300, I've never had any problems with CA.  Sharpness at 300mm wide open is usually my challenge  with the lens.  At 250 it's performance is great, and for 4K it does work great for wildlife out to 300mm.  But, tripod or monopod is needed for the best panning shots.

It's not that Raw introduced CA, it's that the camera's JPEG engine does a great job at removing it.

In your video, when you checked the box to remove CA nothing happened. I'm going to guess that Lightroom doesn't have a profile of that lens.

You can remove the lateral CA with the lens profile in Lightroom. However, it is longitudinal CA at the helmet edge. Longitudinal CA is not include in the lens profile. Try the Defringe Control.
