Canon EOS-M100
5

I bought the Canon M100 more than a year ago and taken it for a two weeks trip to Osaka/Kyoto, Japan and another two weeks trip to Turkey.  It has perform extremely well and has surpassed my Lumix GX9 which now has become the spare camera.

I am using it with the EF-M 11-22mm f/4.0-5.6, the 22mm f/2.0, the 15-45mm kit lens, the 32mm f/1.4 and with an adaptor, the EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L IS Mk2.

Its the best bang for the bucks.  Great for street and travel photography.

Later this month, I will be taking it for a one month trip to Croatia, Slovenia and Austria.  My Lumix GX9 will remain as my second or spare camera.

Enjoy your trip to Slovenia and Croatia, my wife and I have been going there regularly since 1966. Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro are also worth a visit. As for Austria, apart from Vienna, it has nothing to offer that cannot be found in Slovenia and Croatia, and it has nothing which compares with the Dalmatian coastline. A photographers paradise

Having only had my M50 since just before Christmas, I haven't had chance to use it in any of those countries, On my last visit I used a Sony a6000 with the Sony SEL 18-200 mm lens better than the Tamron equivalent), and my wife's Canon G5X. I would certainly reccommend the EF-M 18-150 mm lens which I have now nvested in, together with the 11-22 mm lens. I hope they will cover all my needs.

Re: Canon EOS-M100

I just bought a m100. Its my first foray into canon mirrorless. Im really liking the picture quality. It appears to have a very good sensor...but coming from sony and fuji mirrorless,  the feature set seems to be pretty minimal. Not sure how that compares with a higher end model like m50 or m6? For example (one of many), I cant seem to find a level. Most cameras these days seem to have one.

Re: Canon EOS-M100

I do not think the M100 has a level.  You can use the Grid on the LCD display as a gude to check your level.

Re: Canon EOS-M100

Very encouraging to know that you have shot all those photos just using the Canon M5.  Actually, I like the M5 but bought the M100 for now.  I might get the M5 Mk2 if they are making one.  The M5 was a bit expensive when it first came out.  I have never doubted its capabilty like what you have got out of it.

What lenses were you using for the shots?

I just bought the EF-M 32mm f/1.4 and found it is quite good.  I also have the EF-M 11-22mm f/4.0-5.6 and the 22mm f/2.0 beside the kit lens.  For telephoto, I use the EF 70-200mm f4.0L Mk2 with an adaptor.

I have the M50 and M100. The M100 doesn't have a level unlike the M50. ISO performance is much better on the M50. But with good light, you won't see much difference. I only got the M50 because I wanted to have an EVF. And the grip is just bad on the M100 with my adapted sigma 18-250.

I also have the M100, a level would be great to have but most of the time I can do a good enough job of aligning with the on-screen grid and if neccessary you can rotate in post. I partially fixed the bad grip issue with a custom 3D printed grip, if you search thingiverse.com for canon m100 you should be able to find it. If you don't have a 3D printer you can buy something similar from eBay or Amazon made by Flipbac for about $10

Thanks for the link. I think I have a pretty good solution for the grip. I bought a cheap L plate for like 5 US bucks and attached it the other way around. Not the most comfortable but it works really well. Plus it just looks better for me.

Good idea. What product is this? For $5 it's worth a try.

Doesn't have a brand name. It's just one of those cheap universal L plates from China. The finish is not very good but it's solid. The price is in Philippine peso so roughly around 5US$. Careful though. The one I got is not exactly 90° so using it as a quick release in portrait mode is goind to be slightly off on an even surface. If that even matters since the ground won't probably be even most of the time as well.

Good solution.

I've taken a very different approach that suits me for this particular camera - a wrist strap. Might not sound like it helps, but it does for me, and seems to fit nicely with how I like to use this camera

How does the wrist strap help? Can you explain a little bit? Maybe a photo? I like my set up but sometimes it feels a little big and defeats the purpose of being a small camera.

The one I chose allows me to tighten it around my wrist when holding the camera, which I find keeps the camera reasonably comfortable in a shooting position without slipping. I'll see if I can sort a picture out of it later.
