SX70 - A few quibbles ?

(1)  The USB cable is a new type where the old SX60/50/40 cable can't be used to connect to a computer?  No new cable supplied. Hard to comprehend.!  BT wireless uploading? Pull the card each time with an add-on reader? Not for me. Not for many.

(2) A new battery required.  What was the problem with the well proven  SX60/50/40 battery?

(3) With the SX60 proven to be a zoom too far why another run?   Why not the proven 50x lens with a little boost from Digic 8?  Too retro?

(4) No hot shoe?  A real bummer.  But why not?

(5) 20 mp on a tiny sensor?  More marketing hype?

Alright,  I'm sure to get shot full of holes from the 70 loyalists who actually are happy with this latest iteration and some have shown real promise. But seriously, there are a few open questions with no answers.  So take a shot.

Re: SX70 - A few quibbles ?

I noticed the G5X has a different charging cord, but I had a few of them from other devices like phone chargers, pads etc.  I was hoping Canon would have improved the lens design this time along with the stabilization.  I guess not.  No hot shoe, big mistake for me.  I asked others if the 20 megapixel sensor was an improvement, but no definitive response so far.

I supose it is a small niggle but still one has to wonder why.

I believe the stabilization has been improved as they indicate a 5 x improvement.  Much needed with that long zoom.

For sure.

With the very tiny sensor I doubt its value except for bragging rights.

I never hook up a camera using a USB cord nor do I use a card-reader. I always put the memory card into my computer's card-slot. So this is a non-issue with me. Don't most computers have card-slots? I've also used a Sony camera for 5 years, that has the same sensor specs as the SX70. It produces photos and videos that look plenty good to me. The processors and firmware that different cameras use, seem to vary a lot and that makes quite an impact on image quality. I'd solve the missing shoe on the SX70 by simply gluing a non-electronic shoe onto it, to handle one of my wired mikes.

True enough.  My Dell has 4 various card slots.  Never used them.  I tend to download often even for a few shots and pulling the card each time is a bit of a multi step nuisance.  I like direct wired stuff so I leave a USB wire attached to the computer for quick attaching to the camera.  With 3 cameras in use all have the same fittings.  Now the SX70 goes off the rails and for what ?  Progressive obsolescence ?

I like Sony products in general but their cameras have some reported menu, software  issues that could be a put-off for a Canon user.  Otherwise highly rated on image quality.

A good fix for a mike although not aesthetically pleasing.  I still wonder if the omition is due to a cleaver, (expensive) accessory they plan to introduce.  A bolt on shoe with a BT connection ?  Naaa.  They wouldn'd do that would they ?
