Pentax 12-24mm with and without lens hood

Has anyone played around with the 12-24 with and without the lens hood?  I'm going to be in London and Paris and am thinking I really need to carry that lens on my K50 or K01 but I really would like to eliminate a little bulk by leaving the lens hood at the hotel.  I'm wondering at what angles to the sun, etc. it is needed, if anyone knows.

The hood can remain on the lens in reversed position, no bulk there. The hood for the 12-24 is not big though.

Anyway I would always use a lens with its hood, specially a wide angle lens! No matter the focal length, this lens will be prone to flare as there will likely be some light source somewhere near the frame.

I heartily endorse that. The hood will also protect the lens against damage in some circs.

Needs the hood unless you are doing 'composition adjust' at 12mm. Are you taking other lenses? I grew up and know London.  I would take just a wide angle so at least with the 12-24 you have all sorts of wide angle focal lengths. Enjoy London and Paris try not to mess with to much kit. Also I believe the Eiffel Tower is not allowed to be photographed at night ?

Bon Voyage say hello to the Queen for me.

Thanks, I'm taking a K01, K50, Oly TG4, Sammy S7 (but won't carry all at once). For lens, 12-24mm, 18-135mm, 35 mm DA 2.4. Any more tips, I probably won't be out much at night and depending on weather, hit some gardens, but mostly just walking around the center of those cities.  Oh, and thanks for the hood comments, I'll just use it.

Don't bother with the hood - mine never leaves home. Even reversed it makes the 12-24 bulky, unwieldy and makes little difference. Just watch out for where the sun is and use your hand to stop it hitting the front of the lens.

Really, that's interesting, nice pictures btw.  Yes, it's bulky even reversed.  I was think about putting it on the K01 for the trip, I think I'll play around with that combo today while still at home.
