Tent camping in the national parks. Side by side chrome copies

In the southern Appalachians with family.  Sears Tent.  Coleman burner. No TV.  No phones.  Just bird song.  Cool at night.

The Sears Roebuck tent and other life necessities.  Location:  Smoky Mt National Park, TN portion..

Lots of separation if one can view parallel pairs of stereoscopic images. If not, well...  Screen house in back.

Gerry, I'm really enjoying your "vintage" family 3-d pictures.  Thank you!

I'm curious about the developing process of the slides back in the day...  Could your rolls be dropped off at the neighborhood Fotomat, or did they have to go to a specialty developer?  Also, did the slides come with negatives, like the printed pictures did?

Regards,

Randy

A contemporary lightable Hama slide trimmer for slicing roll film to cut to the Realist five perforation size to fit standard mounts of many types... Cardboard folder. In back the' Bible.' The Stereo Realist Manual. Still a great resource and tons of images in stereo...get it on Amazon used...

Hi Randy,

I used mostly Kodak Kodachrome for my slides. And later on, some were Ektachrome. The Kodachrome required a special chemistry processing at labs equipped to handle that. Most were owned and operated by Eastman Kodak. So the rolls were sent with a mailer to one of the listed labs. They could be dropped off at camera stores and were also then shipped to such designated labs. Took at least a week to get the unmounted rolls back to me. And I chose to mount them myself in metal masks and cardboard folders. Ektachrome used a different chemistry and could be handled by lots more labs. And could be as fast as the lab you chose and price you could deal with..... My vintage, or just plain old Kodachrome slides are mostly more color stable than my E-6 reversal films. But Kodachrome was not a low budget process then. A toast to the days of Kodachrome, a fine way to do color. And glad you are enjoying my vintage slide conversions. ( I won't go into the difference between reversal films and negative films since there is plenty on line to go into that. No, no negatives in my shooting. Was possible, but I wanted slides not prints..)

Sincerely, Gerry Siegel Hawaii

I, too, am enjoying your nostalgic images.

Great Smokey N.P.?

Early 50s?

I think we were in the campsite just a ways to the left of yours!

I recall @ light rain that evening...nothing heavy...just a nice sound to go to sleep by.

Keep ‘em coming!

Dave

Dave, we were young and able to rig the canvas. Love the parks within range of District of Columbia .. This spot was in on of the highest moutain top sites. Chilly at night and got some rain ( canvas is not waterproof totally)...Gorgeous scenery. Late 1960s.. I do not have a Windows computer so I am not processing many lately,,,,I guess I will break down and feel that SPM deserves a shot to digitize more. But I am glad you like these oldies. Oldies but goodies. I mean the world was not bad when we were younger. It still offers rewards.

Camp Roosevelt, Nat Forest Service tenting. Valiant with our box trailer full of poles and propane and sleeping bags.  1967 family camping, cheaper than BnB, and only raccoons to keep  us company..:-)
