Date and time reset on every boot

I have had a Canon PowerShot SX110 IS for 11 years. Now, every time I turn it on, it prompts for the date and time, which is all zeroed until I set it again.

I know there is a small compartment for a CR 1220 battery on the left side that is supposed to keep the date and time. It's no surprise that it has run out of juice after 11 years.

So I bought a brand new battery, put it in place of the old one and... the problem persists.

Has anyone here seen that happen?

I can't afford to submit it for repair right now. I am going though a difficult time financially. I only have another camera, which is definitely broken and I can't have it repaired either.

I may be wrong but i think you have to fully drain the power when the battery is out. I know this is the case on some other canon cameras anyway. Remove all batteries, wait a long time. Reinsert batts and reset camera to factory defaults (ie reboot). It might be worth it to hit play button or on button etc. with batteries out just in case that tries to use any remaining power in the camera (probably won't but might help).

Well, if this isn't witchcraft... It worked! I removed all the batteries and went to have a shower. When I came back, I put all the batteries back in and now it works.

Thank you!

I still have mine and it is still working. Not a bad camera overall but it doesn't like high ISO values. On mine, at ISO 800 the quality is strongly degraded and at ISO 1600, I have a few vertical lines on the images. It also doesn't like low light.

Regards,
There is always something to shoot/snap, you just have to know how to do it and have the right gear.
