At 500 + it's an expensive Chinese lens.

I'm so conflicted. I don't need it but it would be fun to shoot with.

Right, 500 for a manual focus.  ouch.  I should probably get an Xt3 first.

Take enough pictures, one is bound to be decent.

Lenses before bodies

I've had this lens in my cart a few times, but have never pulled the trigger. Not really sure why not. I like the photos I've seen.

It's killing me to already own a 35mm .

I wish I had a 23mm f2 so I can buy this lens but non the less

- there is no lens as shallow.

- it's a normal focal length

- some reviews mention how much fun it is to shoot with.

I have the Fuji 35mm f2 and really like that focal length. I shoot it on my XT1. I got the Mitakon because I could use it for some portrait work if I wanted to. I went out and shot my daughter with this lens and the Fuji 60mm. I know the 60 is a better portrait focal length but I didn't get on with it as much as the Mitakon. I liked better how much closer I could get to my subject with the shorter focal length. I felt more engaged. The bokeh is also nice. Focus peaking works great although I'm finding that I missed focus on a bunch of shots. I don't know if my technique is off or if my focus peaking is off? I'll have to take some time to test later. Color is a bit over processed but it's the way she likes it. The focus is also off just a bit. Her sleeve is in focus. Her face is just beyond the plane of focus. I don't mind a bit of softness in a portrait though.  Mostly it's just a lot of fun.

You know you want it

If price is the main objection, have a look at a focal reducer (cost around 70-200$) and a classic 50mm 1.4 lens, such as e.g. a Super Takumar (cost 25-150$ depending on lens type, condition, ...) This will give a similar field of view as a native 35mm lens.

There's also the ultra-compact, and cheap, 7artisans 35 1.2. But reactions on that lens are more mixed, possibly due to sample variation.

Nice shot!

Re. peaking: In my experience it shows more in focus than there actually is. Therefore I use magnified view only. The difficulty is sometimes the EVF&shutter-lag, which can lead us to think we make the shot in perfect focus, but in the meantime the subject has moved. Especially with very narrow DOF, and in low light, this can be an issue.

(I never understood why there is shutter lag when shooting in full manual mode incl manual focus, but sometimes it's substantial.)

The lens being chinese shouldn't take away from it being optically great, having amazing build quality and overall delivering amazing pictures.

This isn't some stolen product that they rebuilt for cheap, there is real quality stuff coming out of China now.

Just think about all the whining on this forum when the X-T3 was announced to to be produced in china, now it is being hailed as one of the best cameras of 2018...

Didn't know that about the X-T3. To be honest I stopped shooting for roughly 3 years and just started again with a new X-T3. I love the camera for the control it gives me.

Chinese lens for a Chinese camera?

Thanks for that. I'll try it to see how it works. Love the lens otherwise.

Bought the lens and took a few shots on my walk.

So, what's your opinion after a few days with it?

Just tried a sunset shoot and it even flares at f11+ as it turns out. Quite like the flare in this one though:

Mitakon 35/0.95 at around f11 with an ND10

Found that I really love shooting with it. I shot last night and got almost no keepers.

The photos of my wife came out incredible.

I'm really happy with it and I have to say it's addicting.

I want to buy more lenses like this one but I don't want to have less quality and I do not want to adapt other lens to the Fuji mount.

This one is a winner for sure.

Fantastic photo by the way.

Hi Kevin - I just bought the Miktakon 35 mm lens for Fuji for my X-H1.   The camera will not take a picture with the lens on.  B&H thinks the lens is defective but before J return it, I was just wondering what settings I should have for the Fuji camera to shoot?

Select the menu item Shoot without lens, and set it to on.

HI,

I think you need to set the "no lens attach shoot to NO". This manual lens might not be able to signal the camera that there is a lens attached to the body.
