Who says the 35/f2 has no magic?
13

Some says that the Fujicron is too "clean", without "soul" or "magic". I got one at last Saturday, to give it a trial during this week's Hanover Fair in Germany. And I can tell you, I am really convinced by its rendering.

It is just a really good lens.  That is all.  That is all they can ever be.

I think it’s better than I previously gave it credit for, too

I some recent-ish shots I took, in rainy weather. The white balance was strange (I think I had it set to something other than auto, by accident) and I also blew the highlights, but I don’t mind!

I was considering selling this lens next, but I may hang on to it a bit longer

People compare it with XF35 F1.4

I think the lens itself is a great lens.

However, given there is the XF35 F1.4 in the market with very similar pricing and one stop faster, people would really expect the F2 need to out-perform the old F1.4 lens.

The old F1.4 was somehow an excellent lens, except the slow AF.  Therefore no many users tend to buy the F2.  But certainly F2 is also a decent lens:-)

Those images are either out of focus or just not sharp. Do u have some more?

That’s a great shot no doubt. 1.4 will blur the background better than f 2. However, the focus is slow on the 1.4, it hunts in low light, not weather sealed, a bit larger. I think a version 2 of the 35 1.4 would rock, but until then I’m sticking with the f2

I owned the f1.4 as well, and was reluctant to give it up for the f2 - but WR makes the deal for me. But now, I can‘t see „more“ magic in the older lens beside of what f1.4 vs f2 can do.

No magic, terrible lens.

Kidding.

One of my favorite lenses for close portraits.

I think they’re probably a little out of focus; I only transferred the smartphone jpgs to my phone, so haven’t looked at them on a computer screen yet!

Could you elaborate about what you find magical in this shot? Personally, I would have shot this stopping down the lens a bit more, so the two gentlemen on both corners would be in focus.

A lens is merely a tool...nothing more...nothing less!  There is no such thing as "soul" or "magic" in a lens.

It's been my experience that magic disappears once blind comparisons occur.

There's no magic for me...

It's just rendering, only the photo creates any magic, the lenses is just a tool to assist in image creation. I understand the enthusiasm for some lenses, and that in itself can motivate us to go and take more images, and once in a while come up with something we love, but in reality it's only us that can make the magic happen.

what if I could show you where highly trained professional optical engineers from germany and japan are not in agreement with this statement ?

would you find it interesting information ?

It's not a statement from an optical engineer's perspective, it's a statement from photographer's perspective.

Go for it....
