XT100 + 27mm for Everyday Photography?

Anyone have any experience with this exact combo? I'm looking to pick up a new camera for just general purpose, take everywhere kind of photos with a small footprint.

I've seen a lot of the negative reviews on the XT100's AF performance, but I see that quite a few firmware updates have been issued so I wonder if peoples complaints have been addressed?

I'm sure most of my use will be single point AF in AF-S with Av priority, and just sending the jpegs straight to my phone; Nothing fancy and probably very little RAW editing and definitely no video.

I'm just curious if the 40% AF coverage and AF performance has impacted anyone negatively in regular use, too.

For comparison, I have an M50 that is super small and takes good jpegs, but the battery life is pretty terrible and it has its own pains with the EVF sensor and lack of dials, among other things.

Any insight you can provide is greatly appreciated!

I only have in-store experience with the X-T100, since it didn't convince me when i was testing it out. I also own the 27/2.8 and love the lens.

The 27/2.8 has the old focus motor, which isn't the fastest one, but works very well on my X-T2. There is still some hunting every now and then, so I expect it to perform quite a bit worse on the X-T100.
Maybe instead of the X-t100 you could go with the a (used) X-T20 or even the X-T30, both oh which perform better in AF compared to the X-T100.

I definitely considered the XT20 as they are both around the same price on the grey market right now. It may seem like a small thing, but I actually prefer the dials and feel of the XT100 compared to the XT20 after using a friends. And an even smaller plus for the XT100 is I absolutely love the gold color scheme. None of which are dealbreakers in the grand scheme of things, of course.

There's no real tangible difference between the jpeg output between the Bayer and the X Trans is there? The image quality on DPR's test scene shows both are pretty exceptional.

Af is very good with x-t100, on a par with my x-h1, I can post a link to the ytube video showing its speed. Make sure performance mode is on in the battery settings. X-t100 is a brilliant camera!

Yes, in terms of output you will have pretty much the same images if you just look at SOOC images.
But when it comes to performance, the X-T20 has a more advanced focus system, more focus points and better video performance. If burst mode is relevant to you, the X-T20 is also faster and has a bigger buffer,

X-T100 has the selfie screen, which the X-T20 doesn't have and slightly better battery life, according to Fuji. But I honestly think that CIPA battery ratings are absolute BS.
My X-T2 is rated for 340 pictures and I almost always get at least twice that much

There is a tangible difference between xtrans raw and Bayer raw, if you are using raw and Lr the Ed tool brings the files to a comparable level, but without it I would of just stayed with x-t100, it’s easier to use and. much more quicker to navigate, but I wanted a weather proof body as well and ibis for video, so have both. I can honestly say I feel more confident about x-t100 output c/w x-h1! But x-h1 serves its purpose, POV jpg are better from x-t100, turn nr off though -2 in settings and either 0 sharp or -1 to taste 👍

Battery of x-t100 goes forever, it’s actually better than the cipa rating. Performance wise, it’s not so clear as you make out, while the s-af box can go smaller on the x-h1/x-t20 the accuracy of the x-t100 is very reliable too and just as quick in all light levels until around ev0. The evf of the x-t100 and the x-t20 are the same, lcd of the x-t100 also has a portrait mode ie as per x-t2/x-h1, overall the x-t100 is a class product, beautifully built and perfectly functional and formed.

I really don't know what the fuss is about with the X-T100 for focusing? mine is absolutely fine, plenty quick enough. I did update the firmware to version 2.0 as soon as I bought it and it is switched to performance mode, but seriously, the focusing is really not an issue at all. I see far too many people commenting on this who've clearly never owned or shot with one, since the firmware update, or ever for that matter.

Af speed hasn’t changed as far as I can tell/ remember with any of the f/w updates, it’s always been excellent!

Currently, i am using E3+27 as my daily, porket , street camera.

most light combo in fujisystem, almost same size as x100f,

i used t100. it is beautiful one. a little slow on its overall peformance (compare to my t2 and e3). Performance is not that big deal, but t100 body is heaver than my e3+27.

I have got this combo. It is small enough to sit nicely on a neck strap under my jacket. For a two lens kit I pair it up with a 50/1.7 Pentax.

I've seen a lot of the negative reviews on the XT100's AF performance, but I see that quite a few firmware updates have been issued so I wonder if peoples complaints have been addressed?

I often get shots with a face detected yet the focus is on the background. The focusing is a bit noisy  with the xf27 but it is not slow at all compared say to the 15-45 zoom. They are about the same.

I'm sure most of my use will be single point AF in AF-S with Av priority,

That's how I shoot too.  But when I switch to face detection for shooting kids running around, I get about 30% of shots with missed focus.

I have a 50 1.7 pentax, MF, somewhere, need to get an adapter and try it!

15-45 is not slow focusing, on the contrary, its quite fast and responsive.

That's not bad actually, 70$ %hit rate!

Just ran a little test to compare AF speed between the xf27 prime and the 15-45 zoom on the XT100.

AF-S, single point focus, both lenses are set to f/4, 27 mm, indoors, focusing on a wall about 5 meters away then on my hand. Repeat 10 times, so 10+10=20 focus accuisitions.

The xf27 took 32 sec and the 15-45 took 44 sec.

The xf27 is a little faster! Both lenses focused 10/10 on the wall but failed to focus a couple of times on my hand, so the total time was for 22 focus accuisitions, 2 of which failed.

So here we go, the camera takes about 1.5 sec to focus with the xf27 and about 2 sec with the 15-45 zoom.

I ordered an XT100 to use with an XF23 F2, Adorama is offering a crazy deal I couldn’t pass, you get the camera body plus the Domke Fuji bag, the small Fuji EF-X20 flash, 32gb memory card and a peak wrist strap, all for $559. I sold my XT2 last year and recently my XH1 and I’m currently waiting for an XT30, I preordered the charcoal so it won’t come till June, I hope the XT100 isn’t too slow like they say, I’m planning to use it as my landscape cam so I’ll be getting an L bracket for it.

That's a great deal, I'll be very surprised if you find the AF too slow, I was shooting with mine yesterday and had no issues at all, just remember to switch on performance mode, which doesn't appear to make any difference to battery life, which is pretty good anyway. Enjoy and let us know what you think.

Performance mode will be the first thing I set after updating the firmware. How do you find the little grip that comes in the box? This camera will be used mostly for landscape and and possibly at gatherings for indoor use.

It's ok but I prefer a deeper grip, so I got one of these, which is ideal for me. I've removed the side bar on it so I can still flip out the LCD. It adds a bit of weight but not too much and makes it more comfortable for me to operate the rear coin slot type control wheel with my thumb. I find it very comfortable to shoot with this on.

Got the same one. I also used a bit of sand paper to trim the side a bit, in order to be able to fully tilt the screen.

Yes, removed mine too :), I also added small rubber grip dots to mine as the metal is a bit slippy.
