SX 70 HS behaviour when buffer is full.

Hi all,

One of the things I find incredibly frustrating about the SX 70 HS is that it essentially goes into lockdown when you have filled the buffer with shots. Specifically, you can't even zoom whilst it's writing to the card.

I am using a Sandisk Ultra 32Gb card so it's no slouch and I do not think there is much to be gained from a faster card (although open to that if opinions differ).

Has anyone found a workaround / setting that helps?

Mark.

Have you specifically tried zooming while the buffer is full?

Yep. I have just tried on my copy once again to be sure.

With buffer full zooming is normally possible, in and out. No problems whatsoever.

..The SX70 camera has incredible amount of "buffer" when compared to my other superzoom cameras..

..and "yes" having a faster memory card can certainly help with the cameras performances..

..the memory card I'm using for my SX70 camera is the SanDisk Extreme Pro, be sure to get the one for the "4K".. (see the below picture)

..happy shooting..

..Cheers..

As John already pointed out, UHS Speed Class 3 is a must for these new/er/est cams that records 4K. The better writing speed the better.

I use this one on my SX70: https://www.sandisk.com/home/memory-cards/sd-cards/extremeplus-sd-uhs-i

Without any problems. En plus, with a new firmware installed everything operational became even snappier incl. AF.

Re: SX 70 HS behaviour when buffer is full. Counterfeit Card?

The SD Association has recognized a problem with counterfeit SD cards (esp. if bought online), some produced in the same facilities as good cards.  I suggest you go to the SD Association website and download their SD formatter. This will tell you if the card actually has the full capacity it advertises on the card itself.  If, after formatting it with SD formatter, it is good, then reformat it in the camera. If this fails, contact Canon.

..Yes, thanks very much for bringing this up and for this tip!

..I totally forgot about the "third wheel ", that there are "fake" SanDisk memory cards floating out there (just like fake Beats headphones)..

..I always buy my memory cards (and headphones) from Best Buy, it's my reliable source..

..thanks for sharing..

..Cheers..

There is more Counterfeit Merchandise on the market than folks would imagine. One needs to be very careful where and what to buy.

Good suggestion!

Re: SX 70 HS behaviour when buffer is full.

Hello,

My wife has an SX70, and yes time between kissing the shutter button and the camera being ready for the next shot can take a second or two.

The other day at the beach and taking photos of the grandchildren she expected to be able to keep the shutter busy, so the time lag was annoying her. (Happy wife, happy life).

The card is a Sandisk Extreme Pro though without the original packaging I can't verify if it's a 4K.

Did you come to a conclusion ?

Or is a second delay normal ?

Regards

Steven

Check settings. Camera should be faster.

Update on Canon SX70 Buffer issue.

I have installed the fastest suitable Sandisk available from our largest national camera outlet.

Better than previous, but still noticeable delay. Kay sera sera, obviously a $1000 camera will have limitations when compared to your $5000 main battle wagon.

At the time of purchase, a small lite weight camera had appeal, but now we have found ourselves gravitating back to respective 4kg's of self-propelled howitzers.

You all have a happy Newyear.

Regards

Steven

That's about where we landed - use the fastest card you can and just live with it. My wife loves the SX70 and wants a single camara that does it all, so the SX70 fits the bill for her.

Take care and happy New Year too!

Mark.

One of the settings may be delaying things.

Format card in camera.  (This will erase it, so make sure you have them saved.)

Check focus release if an option...
