600d freezes when shooting in live view but only if hotshoe flash connected

I've run in to a peculiar problem with my 600d. Whenever I try to take a shot in Live View mode with something connected to the hotshoe (flash or trigger), the camera just stops. Black screen, nothing works. IF I turn it off and back on, I can view pictures using the play button but can't shoot anymore, either in Live view or using the viewfinder. The only way to get it back to normal is to remove the battery and put it back.

Can anyone help me figure out what could be wrong here?

Canon -EX series speedlite or other?

Did the camera work with speedlite/trigger before and now it doesn't?

Two Third-party flashes. One Godox Ving TTL and another Sonia Manual flash. They never worked in Live View as my camera doesn't support silent shutter. But I could still take photos in Live view only the flash wouldn't fire until I turned live view off. Suddenly, now taking one shot almost makes the camera freeze. I don't know if it is actually freezing because if I turn off/on, I can then view photos BUT cannot take anymore photos even without Live View. I don't know what to call this stage where the camera is responsive but cannot take photos at all (no metering in viewfinder) and live view won't turn on either.

Sorry I can't speak specifically to your problem, but I can say that I owned a T3i for several years.  Although it was a great little camera, it was probably the most electronically unstable.  I had to 'reboot' it every once in awhile, after it would lock up.  Usually after a lens change, occasionally other times.  What firmware is on it?
