Mixed PICS with the 32mm f/1.4 STM lens...

EOS M6 + EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM + CPL - the Moon from my car window yesterday

.
ABOVE IMAGE:
I got stuck in traffic yesterday trying to dodge three of four storm cells that were dropping fist sized hailstones on a nearby neighborhood.  A last minute decision to leave the freeway early resulted in me being stuck in traffic.  I took a half-dozen shots from my window whilst jammed between dozens of cars and buses... which resulted in quite a bit of rain coming into my side of the car.  One of the images showed the moon with lightning in the shot (plus a cellphone tower).  It's a shame I wasn't on foot because I'd have tried to align the elements a little better... although I noticed how quickly the clouds changed just from shot to shot.  Of course, the traffic lights changed and I had to move on again.
.
We've had some film premiere events as well as numerous lunches and dinners lately.  I tend to have a camera with me most times so it was almost routine for me to snap a shot of something nearby.  Some JPEGS from the last couple of weeks with the EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM lens below...

Oh man the results from that lens look amazing. I really want it now and if my wife finds out I'm dead - and in debt!

I'll have to hope somebody ends up selling one at a bargain price on ebay - not very likely, is it!

Don't go into debt for a measly lens if you already have another.  I'd consider this one to be a little bit of a luxury lens since it's not essential to have it, especially with so many other choices out there.  I'm just posting some samples that I thought others might appreciate since it's hard to find samples in the wild that haven't already been posted elsewhere.

I'll have to hope somebody ends up selling one at a bargain price on ebay - not very likely, is it!

It's a pretty new lens so I'm guessing it won't happen too often.  A couple of members here have sold it though they said they regretted parting with it - although I think both of these folks were changing systems and didn't want to be burdened with a second system that might not get as much use.  The DOF makes or breaks shots from this lens.  Here's a few new images below with a few bad ones thrown in that weren't up to scratch.

.

I didn't put much effort into those shots.  I just raised the camera and took pictures of food or clouds or whatever caught my eye. Even the Xbox controller shot was taken between games as I was waiting for a live game to load.  I'll have to try taking some pictures with controlled lighting.  I found it to be a fairly decent walkabout lens... just as long as you remember it's very sensitive to bright light.  I took the shot below by raising the camera, taking a three-shot burst of the shopkeeper with the violin (which was oddly distracting) and lowering the camera after taking a shot from chest-height.  The shots were perfectly in focus.  Very quick to focus.  I think I squeezed the shutter button whilst I raised the camera so this was very quick to snap and took little or no effort to center the AF reticule.
.

He didn't see the camera, he was looking at me.  Always good to be able to shoot from chest height and not draw attention.  In this case I turned by body towards him with the camera resting in the crook of my left arm and took the shot holding it with my right hand.

.
It's nice to have a versatile lens to work with.  I know that I can pick it up and use it in pretty much any light.  The lens itself is so lightweight that I often walk around the city with it gripped in my hand and it plugs into the cup holder in my car nicely with the added EW-60F lens hood that I've chosen to use.  Bumped a brick wall with it the other day and the hood took the impact without leaving a scratch.
.
If you're thinking of getting a lens like this one and have use for one, it's great fun.  As you develop an eye for what the diffused background will look like, you'll find yourself finding excuses to take all sorts of pictures you might otherwise pass on.  If you need greater DOF it's easy enough to change the aperture (see pizza shot below).
.
There's definitely a much higher percentage of attractive looking images from this lens due to the DOF being quite shallow and the ability to take quite closeup shots is also very beneficial.   For anyone wondering why I photograph food all the time, I do it to keep my basic skills in check and because I sometimes review restaurants and their food on Google for my local food basin.  I've done it professionally in the past with other cameras but you won't see those images here.  The shots I post on the forum are usually personal shots.  There's a couple of keepers below but I also screwed up a few shots which you can also see...
.

The M6 is pretty accurate with AF although this one was off target (eye reflections were the AF target).

Pretty much all my cat shots are easier since I don't need to get too close to them.

Shot from same position in IKEA with two different AF targets.

I'm starting to knock down the aperture to smaller sizes for food shots with this lens... too much DOF isn't always ideal with larger dishes.  This was the second-worst pizza I've ever eaten.  Should have shifted the focus point to the nearest edge of the pizza.

An eggplant I came across growing in someone's garden yesterday. Not exactly a gem of a shot from this lens ... should have re-positioned myself but I was trying not to step on a poisonous snake. I think the aperture and angle is off.  But it's my only picture of an eggplant and you never know when you're going to need a picture of an eggplant without someone else's copyright on it.

BBQ pork - with different lighting at a different table (same dish as in the OP)

My old cat Mauii is still a little darling.  It's good to be able to capture his golden years without needing a flash.  He really dislikes the camera flashes.

No lens can ever make the Swedish Meatballs with Lingonberries from IKEA look good.  Even this one.

This "Popcorn Lobster" was photographed under fake halogen LED lamps and looks terrible... due to the fairly even lighting.  Bit of a shame.

Pretty mundane shot of Zima sleeping.  Could have tried to bounce the Flash?

A ladybug on the Eggplant (see image above) that was taken at Minimum Focus Distance.  Considering that the insect was just 6mm long, this isn't bad for a closeup lens.  The problem with the image is that the sun was behind cloud and there's no real highlights to play with.  I almost threw this image away but kept it as a closeup example. Needs better light/highlights.

The perils of a lens that exhibits Shallow DOF : I actually misfocused just beyond the leading edge of the meat patty.  Should have used f/4- f/7 or similar.  Should have taken another shot or used the LCD to review the picture before eating the burger.  Guess I'll have to try again (YUM).

When there's not enough texture because the DOF is too strong...

Wrong angle for f/1.4  - Should have shifted slightly... but the lizard kept moving towards me since it was expecting me to give it a treat. If the nose was in focus along with the eye, this wouldn't be bad at all.  I actually tried to get another shot but the lizard moved into the nearby grass.

Changing the aperture helped... but the colors and angle of sunlight were not ideal for this shot.

Looks like the perfect lens for your shooting style

I don't shoot many candid shots but it seems like the perfect lens for that type of shooting.  You showcased it very well.

I feel like there should be the tip of some alien ship or giant monster (or maybe just an Asgardian) coming out of that cloud.

That may be the most comfortable looking cat that I have every seen.

Re: 32mm lens... some bad PICS taken with this lens...

I was being flippant about going into debt - I wouldn't do that

But the results you're getting from that lens definitely makes me want one. I love the way it renders the image. Stunning.
