Thank-you, i was debating the 100mm F2.8 macro and the 24-70 F4 lens, but glad i spent a little more on this lens, had to sell my 70-200 F2.8 L IS USM Mk2 to fund it, as although it was a cracking sharp lens, I'm finding with my arthritis heavy lens are no more. I have the 24-105 STM lens the cheap version which i find very sharp and versatile, i aim to buy eventually the 70-300 lightweight version at a later date, i had one before, but regretted selling it, it was very sharp and lightning quick on the AF.

Re: Canon EF 85mm F1.4L IS USM Lens. (just a bit larger than a 1.8) :)

Silly me: I recently picked up a copy of this lens and was planning on putting it in the same place in my bag as is/was taken up by the EF85/F1.8 - it won't fit! LOL

I've come to realize that the 1.4L is to big around to fit in the same spot.

(love the idea of 1.4 AND IS in a 85mm!)

So I ended up selling off my EF 85/1.2L II just this pass week and have considered replacing it with this for my 5D Mark IV specifically because it is image stabilized.
Do you think its sharp enough wide open though?

And also important. How is the AF speed of this lens?

Sorry had to read that twice, thought you were talking about the 5D4, as for the the 85MM F1.4 its great in the time i have used it, it is sharp at F1.4, but takes a bit of getting use to, i would say the sweet spot is from F2.2- F5.6 in the small time use, as i have only just got it. I need more practice with it, but i must say very impressed and having the IS is great for an old one like me.

My copy of the 85mm f/1.4L is very sharp wide open and AF is very fast and accurate even in low light and backlit situations.
