R/RP ND Filter & Control Ring Mounts

I'm getting my RP next week. I have not seen much on the use of the Variable ND filter and Control Ring Mounts. Has anyone purchased either one of these mounts?

$399 seems a bit steep but I guess less expensive then purchasing individual ND filters to give you 1.5-9 stops.

Sorry, I didn't see this thread on the Control Ring.

I guess I should ask if anyone purchased or will be purchasing the ND Filter Mount.

I have the Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R and Drop-in Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R + Variabel ND Filter.

The control ring mount is great. I use it to set the ISO. I use the variable ND filter mainly for video. It is certainly less expensive then purchasing individual ND filters of good quality. I also purchased the Clear Drop-in Filter A in case you don't want to use a filter.

I just bought the vari ND adapter. Arrived last night, but I haven't opened / tried it out yet. I wanted to buy the clear filter at the same time, but is not available on B&H. When I don't need ND, not sure if it is better to just change to the basic adapter, or leave the filter adapter on with a clear filter.

I was talking to the Canon rep at WPPI last week and they suggested you keep the clear filter in. I don't own the mounts yet for my RP. My RP came with the grip and basic mount.

Looks like B&H sold out of the clear and polarizing drop in filters. I bought both from them along with the Neutral Density adapter but I also preordered them back in mid Feb. I'm scheduled to receive them next Monday.

Re: R/RP ND Filter & Control Ring Mounts

Can you please clear something up for me? Does the adapter with ND filter also have a control ring? I know there is just a simple adapter with no control ring, but do the adapters with drop in filters not have the control ring either?
Thanks:)

It has one or the other, not both.

Re: R/RP ND Filter & Control Ring Mounts-Update

I purchased the variable ND filter to use on my RP. It is very nice for situations where it is bright out and you want to be able to use a slower shutter speed. However, it will do you no good on RF glass, since you can't use the adapter. I think it is great for some applications if you know you're going to be using EF glass but I wouldn't buy it just because it might be the only Canon adapter available right now. I also purchased a couple of off brand adapters when I couldn't get the $100 Canon ones, and they do just fine. I do think the price for the Vari-ND filter is ridiculous, as it's about 40% of the price of the complete RP body!

Oops! I just noticed how old this thread is!

Who dug this up?

No problem! I ended up buying the basic EF adapter only for $99

Since then I bought the R5

Re: R/RP ND Filter & Control Ring Mounts

Thanks. I figured as much, but it seems if I grabbed one, it would probably be the one with control ring, I can always screw on the filter.

I bought the adapter with the control ring, but I should have bought just the basic one.  I never use the control ring.

I haven’t even used the control ring with the RF lenses.
