super Sunday
1

The third Sunday in March, the Mardi Gras Indian groups strut their stuff in New Orleans.

It’s a very chaotic scene (in a good way), but it’s not my usual milieu and I struggled with the camera in the crowd. And the T1 isn’t exactly blazing fast on autofocus...anyway, here are three, All with the 90 like my original post, at somewhat lower rez from my tablet...

Great shots btw!

Is anyone bothered by the lack of OIS? I have read a few reviews commenting on difficulties composing with this lens on the X-T2 due to lack of OIS. I own the 56 1.2 and love that lens, the shorter FL means lack of OIS isn’t as big a deal. Is it worth also owning the 90 ? I am worried about the lack of OIS. The lens is on sale now however

Thanks for the encouragement, Doug.

For shooting street, I prefer to stay above 1/250 s to freeze subject movement, and that is usually fast enough for camera shake at this focal length, too, for me. As one can see from the EXIF, shooting in daylight the shutter is very fast, sometimes requiring the electronic shutter for large aperures.

I don’t have trouble composing with the 90; to me, it handles well on a  T1 (but not so well on an E2). Partly, that is because I rarely use manual focus with this lens, which has very fast autofocus. I mostly shoot it AF-S, single point. That’s partly just habit for me, but the AF on the T1 in AF-C, especially in zone or tracking mode, seems a bit balky to me.

On the other hand, I do struggle with the composition and focus on a manual, unstabilized Rokinon 135/2. Partly just because it’s longer, but also because I like to use the magnified view to focus with. That jitters a lot, in my hands. A monopod or tripod helps a lot, but that’s often inconvenient or impossible, of course. I’d love to try it on an H1!

Thanks again for commenting.
