Black Plate on WP-DC47

Do you know what for this Black plate with a hole that covers the flash on WP-DC47?

It's for attaching a fiber optic cable to trigger an external strobe. The black plate is meant to block the on-camera flash which can produce backscatter - being this close to the camera lens, any light that it emits will end up getting reflected back into the lens by particles in the water.
