Is 600D still worth

Hi all,

I have a question. I'm going for a trip on Easter to Istanbul, don't want to take a big and expensive camera with me so I was thinking about buying a used 600D in mint condition so I can use my Canon glass with it.

My main camera is a Sony A7R2 but don't want to take it with me. I also have an Olympus Epl7 but would have to buy a 14-150 to have only one lens and it will cost me more than a used 600D with 18-55 lens.

So is the 600D a good idea? Taken that I don't want to spend more money and could use my Canon glass.

Thanks.

Yes, I'm still using mine. See these pictures that I took with the Canon T2i (550D), Canon T3i (600D) and Canon T7i (800D) cameras.  The Canon T3i (600D) pictures are at the end of the series (that I used with the Tamron 150-600mm lens).

I'll probably upgrade the Canon T3i (600D) this year only because it will give me some improvements.  But it still performs like a champ!

In poor lighting conditions like I had yesterday (just before it rained) the Canon T7i (800D) camera is the one that I would want to use.  There's some distinct advantages especially with people events that I like.  But for most of the time, the Canon T3i (600D) camera will be fine.

Thanks. Great pics.

The 600D is gone but there is a SL1/100D with 18-55 kit lens for 379 euros and 1 year warranty.

Is it a good alternative? It's also smaller. Only doubt is iso performance. I could shoot in churches etc. on my trip; would it be good?

I would highly recommend getting a camera with the newer 24 MP Dual Pixel sensor if at all possible.  It will be an improvement over the older 18 MP sensor in all respects.  Bottom line is that you would gain a full stop in ISO noise characteristics, but everything else would be an improvement as well.

The newer SL2 would give you the best bang for the buck in this category.

However if you want to go even more compact, check out one of Canon's dual-pixel 24 MP mirrorless M-Series models for the substantially smaller footprint...

SL1 vs M50 size comparison (with kit lenses).  All of Canon's current EF and EF-S lenses can be mounted on any of the M-Series bodies with adapter.

Happy shopping!

Sorry.  Thought your limit was the price of the 14-150 (~527 euros).

Aha.  In that case I'd recommend getting a T4i or newer body (better autofocus).  I've seen them (and the T5i) on FleaBay for about $300 US with kit lens.  I really loved my T4i (put about 50K shots through it).

T4i samples can be found on Flickr .

Best of luck!  And have a great trip!

Thanks.

I'm leaning towards the M series because of size and adaptability of the lenses I already own.

I was on very tight budget but now, due to new earnings, I can strech to 500/600 euros so a M6 or M50 should be able to fit in.

Thanks.

Yesterday I had a nice suprise with new earnings so I can stirr my budget to 500/600 euros.

Thinking about the M series like you suggested. M6 - M50 - M5(maybe out of budget).

Which would you suggest? M6 I'm afraid I'll miss the VF. I'll also use the camera for events like parties etc.

I also asked in the M forum.

Wow, that's GREAT!  Congratulations!

I truly love my M5, however if push came to shove I think I'd still recommend the M50 for the improved autofocus (it's newer), even though the M5 has more external controls.

You know, if you wanted to go really minimal on vacation you might check out the little M100 Kit.  It doesn't have an EVF, but it still has that great 24 MP Dual Pixel sensor and touchscreen LCD.

Happy shopping!

Re: Is 600D still worth

I was wondering the same thing.  I found a gently used T4i for $175.  I'm visiting the States and found this which would be way more in €.  Normally, I use M4/3, but have some Canon glass that I use with that system, but do like Canon colours so thought maybe just getting a body and using them natively. Does this seem like a good price, or is the camera Worth it?  Thanks.

Yes, if you can find one under $200 (USD) that's a good value.  That would be especially if it's in excellent condition with low shutter counts.

Re: Is 600D still worth

I haven't upgraded yet my Canon T3i (600D) camera.  It's worth enough to me, to remain using it.  Here's one recent photo I took with it.  I did purchase although a Canon T7i (800D) to replace one of my Canon T2i (550D) cameras.

Nice, thanks.  Canons hold up well.  I still have an aging 400D which works well.  But, no video.
