Guess what... it was supermoon day :)
17

From yesterday in Amsterdam:

Supermoon above the Basilica of St. Nicholas in Amsterdam

Supermoon just before it disappears behind the Amsterdam skyline.

A new supermoon rising again in the evening behind the Amsterdam Tower. Guess which city?

Starting to have fun shooting the moon!

Excellent! Especially the first two are really nice. Do you have one taken just a minute or so before the second image?

About 2 minutes before (I believe I have other ones as well, but not available right now on Flickr):

Is this what you were looking for?

Well done!!
Beautiful compositions.
I like both, but the one with the reddish background is my favorite.

I like the first two! Any hint how are both moon and building in focus? Two different images stacked?

Easy. Single image!

I used a DoF table. I focussed on the moon. Used the DoF table to figure out an aperture that allowed me a reasonable ISO, gave me a fast enough shutter speed for maximum zoom (210mm) for the moon to not display motion blur and gave me a distance to the skyline that more or less matched the distance from the point were I was planning to take my images from!

I have some DoF table apps but I believe I used this site this time: https://www.photopills.com/calculators/dof-table

Note then when you use a long tele, like the zoom factor I used or even longer, you can see the moon moving in your viewfinder... pretty fast... so the longer your lens... the faster shutter speed you need. To see the moon moving... a professional photographer was at the same spot shooting some real time video's... he posted them on instagram : https://www.instagram.com/albertdrosphotography/

He also has a some really great images from one day earlier at the same spot, with just some other weather circumstances... but his images are in another league!

Just a small follow up on the previous answer.

The third image, with the red tower, I do believe you can see that the tower in not as crisp as the skyline in the other pictures! That was because it was actually to close for the aperture I chose. In all images I choose f6.3. Larger would mean cranking up the ISO, but the DR and pushing shades/highlight recovery are not the strongpoints of m43 so I wanted to prevent that. I exposed for the moon in this image to retain some level of detail, but that meant the tower was underexposed and I new I had to bring it back a bit in post. So I needed the lowest ISO possible.

And of course I also wanted to prevent diffraction to play a big role. With this lens at max zoom (and teleconverter) it already kicks in at f5.6.

So... a lot to consider... but with a little prepwork, and figuring stuff out before hand... you can get more than decent results.

now i kind of regret i didn't go out side monday..... (looked at the northside and it was clouded so i thought no clear image so back to dinner and the bench with a espresso....)

Nice and good framing first two,  was that a morning just after breakfast shot?

The angle is somewhere around those stairs (briks) acros the end of the single...

last one nice, would be funny if you got it just on top of the "Shell stick.."

There was a pretty clear sky, it had been raining earlier in the night, but at the right moment, no clouds.

Nice and good framing first two, was that a morning just after breakfast shot?

Did not have breakfast, was in position just past 6AM... way to soon as it turned out! It only got interesting more then an hour later!

The angle is somewhere around those stairs (briks) acros the end of the single...

I was standing next to Nemo on the Oosterdok. And I was moving around between the van der Veldebrug and the wooden jetty to reposition a couple of times.

Yes, tried it, but just misjudged it and there wasn't time anymore to move a bit and compose and focus again.

19 march a next chance... but I have not looked yet at the timeschedule and the location of the moon.

Good luck if you are able to give it a go next time!

This is the best effort to get the moon pinned on top of the tower.

Close... but no cigar...

Yeah... it is crap of course 😁

Joking aside, poeple who have a low noise tolerance probably don't like these shots, but would only have done marginally better with a larger sensor, because for the same DoF and shutterspeed, they would had to stop down more and increase the ISO. I do believe the results might have been cleaner, and note that I did not use any noise reduction in post for these images, and larger sensors would probably have marginally cleaner images and a little bit better DR which would be very helpfull in preserving detail in the darker areas and moon together!

But for me... it is good enough, these will print nicely, especially with some additional cleanup.
