Possible replacement hood for the RF 35mm F1.8

It turns out the $4 Nikon HN-3 screw-in hood fits perfectly on the RF 35mm. It even seems to work without vignetting when mounted in the rather extreme photographed fashion: atop a UV protector AND the Canon hood.

This hood is made of solid iron--a pleasant surprise considering the price--and feels ready to survive where the lens itself probably won't.

Just be aware that the hood does prevent you from attaching the lens cap, and the hood cannot be attached to the body reversed for obvious reason, so you'll have to store them separately and screw it in every time you start a session.

Nikon hood on a Canon lens? Heresy! Burn the witch!

To be honest, I don't think this hood is actually necessary if you have the Canon one. I suspect that the Canon hood does a pretty good job of stopping stray light rays, and this hood is not going to be good at saving your lens from physical trauma because it's attached to the inner barrel, not the outer barrel, meaning any shock intercepted by the hood will be efficiently transmitted to the AF mechanism and wreaking havoc with the focus.

But it seems a lot of people seem to prefer a traditional looking hood, and here's a decent-looking choice (the logo notwithstanding). The price is certainly right!
