I will continue to buy and use M system gear, with an eye toward buying into the R/RF ecosystem in the near future. My EF lenses (85 1.8 and 100 2.8L) will continue to see use on both systems 😊

Possible really for me. I miss 35 2.8 or even 4 pancake and real 55-200 and maybe 70-300 , not this one we have(tried and gave up on it, didn’t like it at 150+) - so I’m using EF-S 55-250.Portability is great while it give you quality, it is with 22, 32 and 11-22 - but not on the longer end(18-150 is not long enough). More budget oriented primes are welcome), but will not happens.

However it is just my POV, and most likely I’ll get m50 first) for more powerful portability and some FF(EF or RP) a bit later again(5D was a dream cam for me except weight and AF)

If the RP had full feature 4K w dpaf, and little or no crop, I'd be buying one... If the pro R has it, then I'll buy one.

If the next M flagship replacement has full feature 4K w dpaf, and little or no crop... I may hold off buying an R for years.

Unless the R system puts out some smaller great lenses, like the M system, I will likely still keep my M for travel.

In the meantime, I won't buy the new M32, or another L ef lens....

Possible impact for me. Since they have now announced IBIS is coming to the R it may make me move to that system. Most of my Canon glass is older non IS and I need stabilization. I don't see the M line getting IBIS.  My guess is Canon will make the EOS-R camera with IBIS the high end only and price me out of it. If so I could leave Canon completely.

to me it needs more than just a low price and ibis , it needs a more capable sensor with better shadow/highlight recovery / tidier noise, minimal moire / aliasing in video (which often gets overlooked) and improved sharpness.

So till then I'm happy spending $700-ish on the cheap M just for taking photos of rapidly moving subjects in good light, and use the Sony's I presently own for slower moving or static subjects and everything else where IQ is needed.

I think if the new Panasonic s1 delivers the goods, and it sounds like it will have an adaptor available to support EF lenses to some degree, even though the body is more expensive than a eos-R, it might push all full frame competitor prices lower in order to stay appealing.

None whatsoever. I use my M system primarily for travel, because I can carry a full outfit in a smallish bag that I can even take when flying with just carry-on luggage. It has good enough quality, just enough lens choice (with a couple of third-party additions, anyway) and meets my technical requirements for a travel system in terms of spec and IQ.
R doesn't do that, in terms of size, and never will.
What R WILL do is at some point replace my DSLRs. I currently use 5D IV, 6D, and 7D II; I may replace the 6D with an R or RF in the not too distant future, and certainly if the 6D starts to give me trouble; the smaller size is certainly a plus for me as a backup camera.
The 5d IV and 7D II I'm in no hurry to replace, but it will happen eventually.

Buying the RP will give new dilemmas. RF 85mm f/1.2 IS or EF 85mm f/1.4? The first isn't usable with an OVF!!! To my eye this is a disadvantage, and not a small one.  You might regret buying a size saving lens which can't be used with a mirror.....

If your facts are different we could save the peace just by calling it copy to copy variation.

As I've already got an f1.2 L II, which suits me perfectly, it's no dilemma at all.

The 28-70 f2 is very interesting for my conference work. None of the other lenses are overly compelling given what I have in EF - I already have every lens I need, so it's completely new lenses that attract me. And mostly, they will happen after i replace the 5D IV.

Ah, that's wonderful!

When i would have a bunch of EF glass and 5Dmk4  already i would buy the RP. You will have mirrorless AF for all your lenses, and there's always the 5Dmk4 for what the RP lacks. Looks like a no brainer to me. Of course you could wait for IBIS, but we all know this will come at a certain price tag.

Just stopped my upgrading of L lenses and buying the new M lenses such as 32 mm f1.4. I'm quite confused about the future of Canon DSLR and M system.

No impact. I am pretty happy with my M100 currently and with the speedbooster I can use full frame lenses with a FOV close to a full frame.

The RP is small but no where close to the size and weight of a M50 let alone M100. The EOS M series is also a lot cheaper and my M100 is pocketable with the 22/2. The RP not so much so.

The EOS M series fits my needs and budget pretty well as a hobbyist photographer. I can see some people might migrate to the EOS R system, but that's not me.
