4pc super-kit: X100F & X-T30 <+XF50+XF16+Sportsfinder>
Feb 15, 2019
ATTN: tandem-shooters travelling light.
An unsung X100F ability is the Triple FOV: 35mm, 50mm, 70mm.
X-T30's 'Sportsfinder' mode brings Dual FOV to the others: x1.5, x1.9*
Thus a four-piece Super-kit is born:
:: X100F @35/50/70 f/2 w/ leafshutter flash & no latency, outside-the-frame OVF
:: & X-T30+XF50 f/2 for Expression @76mm + 95mm 35 - 50 - 75 - 95
:: or X-T30+XF16 f/2.8 for Context @24mm + 30mm 24 - 30 - 35 - 50 - 70
The cameras themselves are complementary, with the X-T30 bringing tilt, fast-firing, and AF trickshots, while the X100F has the ambient-light control of leaf+flash, and the immediacy and context of the OVF.
Small, swift, sharp Fujicrons. LensTip found the XF50 equal-sharpest with the XF90, so the selection is not a compromise, yet it's excellent value.
The reserve lens is small enough to be in the bag along-side the X-T30 fitted with the active lens, and the X100F has it's own leather case (fitting the JJC X70 hood with a slight gap.)
They are society-friendly, with the X100F wowing portrait subjects and averting ire at dress events, and the X-T30 tilting for candid captures and flattering heights, whilst both are quiet and swift. For those inclined, the X-T30 has 200mbps 4K30 and FHD120 - currently the best bang-for-your-buck filming specs available; albeit thermally unsuitable for long takes.
"An elegant weapon, for a more civilised time."
Notes: The X100 conversion lenses tend not to discount like lenses so, apart from the extra camera, the cost and weight of the X100F + XF16 + XF50 is close to that of the X100F + WCL18f2 + TCL33f2.
The X-T30 and XF16 f/2.8 are not listed yet, though the XF35 f/2 is not too much longer, and X-T20 is the same size except for the grip.
* x1.52 x 1.25 = x1.9
