Black and White with OM DEM10ii and E-PM2

Is the only way to shoot black and white photos with art filter 5?

No, there are many others. Place the camera in P, S, A, or M and use the Super Control Panel (or menu-dive) and look for Picture Mode (upper right corner of the SCP). Scroll right until you get to M for Monotone (B&W). Two clicks below that on the SCP (below sharpness) you'll see (F) and probably N next to it. That's the "filter" for the Monotone mode. Want dark skies, select Red. Play around with it. You've got "Tone" as well, which lets you choose normal gray scale B&W or Sepia and some other shades.

If you want to use the menu, it's in Shooting Menu 1 - Picture Mode.

You can also choose a B&W mode for the Dramatic Tone art filter. And there are two different versions of  the Grainy Film art filter, and you can apply all the same color filters that you can in Monotone.
