I have both cameras and I do agree that the GX8 seems to be the higher level camera. However, when I took the two cameras on a recent trip to Costa Rica , the image quality from the GX85 was excellent. My only complaint about the GX8 is the placement of the display button on the back of the camera makes it hit by accident frequently and it is annoying.

That IS annoying!. I wish there were a way to LOCK the DISP mode.

Add a Fotodiox Thumb Grip Type A and that problem mostly goes away.

Wondering,

Most people have a strong preference for a single-axis or dual-axis rear screen.  That's one deal breaker for me, consequently I never went for the GX8.  I put the Panasonic GX9 grip on my GX85 and it was a surprising transformation.  Great grip and a little bit of height, it became very GX8-like with a single-axis rear screen.

But, of course, if weather sealing is important to you, there's no getting around that.

Wanting to replace my three GX7s, I compared a G85 and GX8 in a store. Despite the technical refinements of the G85 (no AA filter, reduced shutter shock, etc.), I went with the GX8 for what might seem like minor reasons.

How many GX8s did you buy???

I wound up with two GX8s and a GX85, the latter because it was compatible with Godox' X1 trigger whereas the GX7 wasn't.

I shoot with all three in my event work. Two GX8s on an OpTechUSA Dual Sling and the GX85 with a small prime on a neck strap.

Lately, though, I added an a7RII to my kit. Not sure whether I'll keep it, and, if I do, which Panasonic it will replace, if any.

Thinking of the Oly 12 100 F4, I assume the post focus (Focus stacking) feature on the GX8 will work with the Oly 12 40 2.8 and 12 100 f4?

I couldn't say. I don't use post-focus, and I don't own those lenses.
