How many of Canon R user have a freezing problem ?

Love my R but, what's with the freeze issues, waiting for a firmware fix. I can not replicate the problem. Happens quite a bit. Not weather related, camera related.

With the polar vortex, I do get cold but wearing multiple layers helps.

Can you be a little more specific?

Have been out the whole day with my R in snow, 0 - 1 degree Celsius. No issue. Btw. One battery was sufficient. The spare was in my pocket.

Yesterday I was Taking pictures. after a while, The Camera turned very hot and froze.
I had to take out the battery to reset it.
it's not the first time it happens to me.

My firmware Version is 1.20

It happens after a lot of Picture Taking.

Sounds like overheating. How many images did you take? For how long did you operate the camera?

I shot an Auto Cross last month, about 983 pics in 3 hrs with no problems.  Used the R with  rf 24-105 and Tamron 100-400 but I did pick up a EF 70-200 f4 IS last week, should be a much better lens for AutoCRoss

None. But it happened more than once I cannot select Av mode. It will jump from Tv to M or M to P.

Wow that's quite a few people who saw freezing so it is indeed a problem. Strange. Never experienced it yet

happen to me just today after changing lens I could not adjust shutter, iso or aperture.  Turning camera off an on did nothing, I had to remove the battery.  I have had the camera about one month, that was first and only time.  I am guessing camera did not recognize the new lens correctly at first.

Was camera turned off on the lens swap? I can repeatly lock it up if I do not power off when changing lenses (bad habit from D-SLR days). Breaking habit now

Re: How many of Canon R user have a freezing problem ?

No issues yet other than lockups if I don't power off when changing lenses.

I've shot 30 mins plus  videos (up to 50 mins total recording time, just started second recording directly after first when camera turn recording mode off at 30 mins limit, a few seconds between auto off and me turning it back on). 30 min limit on single recording length is real.

No issues at all yet when shooting stills.

Note: generally use R with a Canon battery grip

that could have happened  I normally turn it off, but I could have  forgotten it that time

Mine doesn't freeze.

Good thing too as my photos are spectacular.  Any camera operation interruption would be a catastrophe to the free world.

Re: How many of Canon R user have a freezing problem ?

I’ve had one lockup where I had to remove the battery to power it off and I wasn’t doing anything particularly stressful for the camera.

In 5 months of use that’s the only freeze I’ve encountered.

Not once.

A month ago, shot like 3500 frms with motor shutter, wifi transfer on to ipad, 55deg F weather, 1.2 firmware. Froze 3 times leaving card light on. Had to pull out battery to reset. Got an error one time at least, forgot the number but I recall looking it up and being blamed on heat.

One of my fav youtube photographer channels (Manny Ortiz) also experienced the lock up:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRZQy1n7ukg

Some comments on the vid are from users who have experienced a lock up as well. From what I ready some people think it might be due to a faulty SD card. Someone else thinks it's something to do with the combination of pressing the shutter button with the backfocus button when the subject is OOF. And some more comments who have no idea and also other users who have never experienced a lock up.
