battery malfunction

I have a eos 600d and the battery discharges over night if left in the camera. If I remove it , it doesn't discharge. When the battery is put in the date and time details need re entering.

Any ideas please

600D is kind of an old model (2011), how old is the battery? Overtime they lose the ability to deliver the power the camera wants to draw, may need to replace it.

Upon further review, that's what the instruction manual says (p. 27): "If the battery becomes exhausted quickly even after being fully charged, the battery has reached the end of its service life.  Purchase a new battery."
