One photo thread per lens (EF-M)?

What about one photo thread per EF-M lens? That should be no more than 8 new threads, if I have counted correctly.

Why?

Just for fun, actually. But I also think it will be easier to see what each lens can do, and also nice to have a thread to link to when people are asking about a specific lens.

What do you think ?

Ok.  👍 There is a least some interest, so I will start making the threads today.

I know that it is sometimes difficult in this forum with some "new" threads. But to my mind, it is good to start and try what's the reaction.

But I still don't understand if it is meant as a "weekly" thread or just as a thread for the lens where you can insert photos being made with this lens, independent of date.

Thanks for you interest, rz64.. I was thinking all photos, independent of date.

Actually, the persons who will post pictures are the ones who are actually voting.

However, there are arguments why sorting them by lens has its downsides:

- there are more lenses than just EF-m lenses. Where can i post pictures of my M50 + Zeiss Contax 85mm f/1.4?

- More emphasis on the lens performance will likely generate less interesting pictures, and therefor these threads will die sooner. The M forum would benefit the most from more emphasis on the performance of the photographer.

- the same amount of pictures for 8 threads will give less alive threads than have these pictures bundled in one thread

If your facts are different we could save the peace just by calling it copy to copy variation.

This is the description for this forum (quote):
"Welcome to the Canon EOS M Talk Forum, the place to discuss Canon EOS M digital cameras and EF-M lenses."
There are other forums for other lenses. Why don't you go there and see if you can find a photo thread for your lens 😉 ?

Or.. You can make your own thread here. Here is an idea for a title for your thread:

"Adapted lenses on M-series cameras - Post your PHOTOS!" (feel free to copy anything you want from one of the threads I just posted.)

- More emphasis on the lens performance will likely generate less interesting pictures, and therefor these threads will die sooner. The M forum would benefit the most from more emphasis on the performance of the photographer.

Whatever you ask about (or idea you present), you will always find someone who are negative, at least in these forums. (There are a lot of other threads to post in, if you don't like these new ones.)

I think it's a great idea, but........

I think for it to work as you intend (i.e. a place for all specific lens shots) then there has to be a way of keeping these threads at the top of the list. Like all new threads they will be popular initially and then gradually the additions will slow down. At that point they drop to page two and beyond. Then when someone new to EOS-M or the forum arrives to sing the praise about their own lens, they start a new thread and all the initial work is gone.

Needs to be a sticky within the EOS-M forum (if that's possible, MODs?)

I don't think it is possible with stickies in here, but we can at least try to bump the threads if they drop off page one.

I've been on here a while now and only just realised the forum has sub headings!! think i must have been sleeping to miss that.

So what about doing what you have suggested and putting each lens up but as a review thread. Then anyone wanting to see what they are like can select the review tab and go from there. Threads get demoted much less quickly there and it may be a better place to showcase.

This is the description for this forum (quote):
"Welcome to the Canon EOS M Talk Forum, the place to discuss Canon EOS M digital cameras and EF-M lenses."

Look, you can also make "Canon EOS M ditigal cameras" bold in stead of "EF-m lenses". Perhaps the best thing to make bold is only the word "and". However, you can't make pictures with only a lens, right? A camera is needed, an EOS M camera for instance.

There are other forums for other lenses. Why don't you go there and see if you can find a photo thread for your lens 😉 ?

Just because people could want to categorize it according to the camera system rather than just lenses with a certain mount from a certain brand.

Or.. You can make your own thread here. Here is an idea for a title for your thread:

"Adapted lenses on M-series cameras - Post your PHOTOS!" (feel free to copy anything you want from one of the threads I just posted.)

I was giving arguments why it is not a good idea to make more threads, and why it is better to combine in less threads.

- More emphasis on the lens performance will likely generate less interesting pictures, and therefor these threads will die sooner. The M forum would benefit the most from more emphasis on the performance of the photographer.

Whatever you ask about (or idea you present), you will always find someone who are negative,

I am not negative. I am trying to support the idea of posting pictures, and so are you. There is a difference between being negative and criticize a less fruitful way to achieve something.

at least in these forums. (There are a lot of other threads to post in, if you don't like these new ones.)

Of course. But again, more threads is a less good solution.

- the same amount of pictures for 8 threads will give less alive threads than have these pictures bundled in one thread

Beside the arguments: Actually the persons who will post pictures are the ones who are actually voting.

That is a good idea. But i would do that for all pictures taken with any M camera regardless the lens. In this way you will bundle the largest amount of in this sub forum relevant pictures to keep a thread like this as alive as possible. It will only need one sticky in stead of..... wel, how many Canon and other brand M-mount lenses + adaptable lenses do exist in this world....... ? Too many to stick a thread for them all at least.

Are you asking me? I have made one thread for each of the eight Canon EF-M lenses. I am stopping there. I am not making more threads right now. (unless much interest/request for it). But everyone can make new threads, so feel free to make one yourself. I will not stop you. 🙂

Well done OP, great resource. Great way to understand the native lenses and their capabilities. I'm fascinated by the incredible quality of photos some users here can produce with this system. It's a great motivation to learn and improve my own *skills.

I am bumping this thread because some people have started asking questions about the "Post your PHOTOS!" threads. I hope this thread answers the questions and I also think this is a better place to take further discussions.

I think it would be great if DPreview had a pin/sticky feature for threads, otherwise they keep being buried in pages.

I agree 100%

, otherwise they keep being buried in pages.

Not if they are used regularly. Right now I counted 9 "Post your PHOTOS!" threads on the first page.

Thanks for these threads.  I really enjoy them as they introduce an element of reasonableness into a sea of hyperbole.  What I see is real people doing real photography with modest equipment, something that one might think is impossible when reading some of the threads on this forum.  The first 15-45 thread was jaw-dropping.  Clearly M is not just for beginners.
