I Found a New Ace with the SX60/SX70
2

Debra Turner's photostream on Flickr has many good SX60 photos and she's just gotten an SX70. Her first shots with the new camera are worth giving a look. The one at the link was actually shot accidentally with digital zoom, but looks sharp, regardless. The 2nd link is one from the SX60 you don't want to miss. I'm looking forward to seeing some more SX70 photos appear on her Flickr page. It's examples like this, that give you a positive attitude about a new camera.

She also uses 7D with 400mm L combo beside Sx60 and SX70. This is also a combination I'm getting to, to have a mid-tier DSLR with up to 400mm decent lens plus such small zoomer like SX70 is.

Nice images she has on her Flickr no doubt.

Debra Turner's returned the camera due to a focus problem.

Looks to me it may be/is an interference issue between the Continuous AF set On/Enable and normal focusing.

I wonder if all Debra had to do, was turn off Continuous Focus and use Single Focus, as I always have with every digital camera I've used?

I wonder if there are batches of SX70 cameras, from certain time periods or different assembly lines, that have this re-focusing after focus-lock flaw that she and others have described? I and many others had a bad experience in 2006, with the Sony H5. After using it for a week, the focus-lock, after half-pressing the shutter, stopped working. I returned it to a dealer and got another one, but the same thing happened with two more of them, so I took a refund and moved on. I'd had to do quite a lot of explaining and demonstrating to the staff at Best Buy, to get them to understand that there was a problem. I wonder what happened to those returned cameras?

Thousands of people around the world, reported the same problem. And how many less-experienced people never noticed and just kept using them? Sony replaced the shutter assemblies of those under warranty, but never acknowledged that there was a flaw. The majority of them didn't have the problem and some are still being used today. Since all three I got from that dealer were faulty, obviously they came from the same production batch. We referred to it as the "Sudden Shutter-Death Syndrome". It was analyzed (not by Sony) as being due to some faulty electronic components in the shutter assembly.

It was a shame, because I really liked the H5. It took nice pictures at 8-MP, although Sony hadn't yet figured-out how to make a good video autofocus system for that type of camera. I used an older camera for several months, until the Canon S5 was available and I really liked it. It had the best SD video I've ever seen and the best built-in mikes. It still works, if I ever needed a backup camera.

..Yes, there could be "batches" of things..

..I think Avian's setup of using Servo & Continuous AF "Disable" is a good one to use..

Nice images she has on her Flickr no doubt.

I agree she has nice images but it's easy to tell which she's taken with the SX and which were taken with something else.

I wouldn't consider this is an endorsement of the SX60 or SX70.

I've followed Adrian Vesa for a while on Flickr. One of the cameras used is an SX60, he takes some wonderful shots with it. Check out his stream https://www.flickr.com/photos/135299661@N04/

..Thanks for sharing this great find!

..yes, Adrian's SX60 pictures are really wonderful to see..

..it took many years after the SX60 release before folks realizing it's a fine camera, as there was too many misleading informations falsely about the SX60..

..hopefully, folks will catch on how wonderful the new SX70 camera is, and not wait for a long time before realizing like the SX60..

..happy shooting,

..Cheers..
