The SX70 is a winner by a hair.  Unless my old eyes deceive me.

Without spending more time comparing photos are you aware they are at totally different ISO's?   Did I miss something? I'm sorry if I did.

..Yes, I am aware of this, thanks for mentioning..

..the pictures was taken on different days, and at different times..

..I'm actually impressed with the SX60 performance at those iso's..

..Cheers..

Ok, thanks for your candid reply.  Of course that makes this test unreliable, but too late to edit it.

..in some sense you're right..

..but I never said this was a "lab test"..

..what I'm showing is real world photos from each camera..

..and I hope folks will take things with a pinch of salt of understanding..

..from other recent postings, we already seen some really nice chart pictures..

..thank you for your commentings on this..

..Cheers..

To get to know the cam abilities it's advisable to study both the "chart" and "in the field" results. By combining them the picture of the cam potentials can get clearer.

Thank you John for posting comparisons. You're doing a great job especially for those who are considering buying the SX70 HS.

The photo of the church with the SX70 is sharper, but with ISO 100, compared with ISO 250 with the SX60. And of course, differences in lighting on the two days and variations in your taking of the photos could account for something. The edge goes to the SX70, but not with certainty. None of the photos was very inspiring. Shooting with good sunlight would hopefully make a lot of improvement. I've gotten to the point in my photography, that I never bother to do any shooting, unless there's sunlight------unless of course, a flying saucer was landing in front of my house.

Video Comparison Between SX70 and FZ80

Here's a link to an online, side-by-side comparison  between those two cameras. I was surprised to see an edge in clarity with the SX70 and a much warmer color balance. I'd prefer a color about halfway between the two, which I think could be achieved through the settings or at least in post-processing.

This presentation seems professionally done and makes the SX70 look somewhat better than the many haphazard examples you see on that website. You just have to keep looking, to find the few examples that are well-done enough to provide useful comparisons.

Neither of the cameras have adjustable NR settings, but the SX70 has a mike input, while the FZ80 has a flash hotshoe, but no mike input nor external mike function through the hotshoe. The FZ80 has more pixels on its viewscreen, but fewer on its EVF. The FZ80 has threads for a telextender adapter tube, if you can find one, as Panasonic doesn't sell them any longer. There are a few available from scalpers on eBay, at double or triple prices.

Looking at the video, the FZ80 has superior sharpness and noise characteristics. The Canon has better stability and handles dynamic range a bit better.
