Removing Dust

I've got 2 8 element takumar 1.4 lenses.  One is full of dust and the other is got fungus.

I know how to get them open.

Question is:  I've got the dust one open, lots of dust removed; but I can't get it dustless on the lenses.  I've been using a microfiber clothes and it sort of just moves the remaining dust around.  Tried a blower too.  And an artic butterfly.  How do I get it fully dustless?

Blowers usually work, although you can do more. I find lenspens work quite well -- for pretty much the same reason the artic butterfly is supposed to work. I've also used a q-tip damp with alcohol or other wet cleaning if absolutely necessary.

There are really two questions:

  1. Where is this dust coming from? If you are cleaning the lens in a "normal" environment, there's dust everywhere, so it's just redepositing and you'll never clean it. It usually works a bit better to clean in a bathroom, because the regular bouts of high humidity in the room reduces airborne dust -- but note that I'm not saying you should work in a humid environment.
  2. Who cares if there's a little dust? There will be some dust as soon as you leave a cleanroom with the lens; it has very little impact on imaging qualities.  Most new lenses actually contain some dust.
